I loved the leveling. The whole Jaina story was really well done, and the individual zones were fantastic. Drustvaar was so enjoyable, and the creepy old god / Cthulhu stuff in stormsong? Fantastic.
I also loved individuals elements of the war campaign. When Bolvar asks Shandris what her plan is to eliminate some Horde guy after he just revealed his own big complicated plan, she is like, “fill him with arrows until he dies”. I died laughing at that.
I leveled my Alliance Monk through Island Expeditions. I mostly wanted a Max Level Character on the Alliance. So I skipped the Alliance Zone lore. I probably will never go back for it.
However, I just started the Alliance War Campaign. I figured I will try to do it before the raid comes out. It does make me feel a little dirty - fighting the Horde.
But I have a new appreciation for Shandris. Shandris and Maiev make the Alliance fun. Everytime I see them on my Alliance characters, I know fun is about to go down.
I enjoy the interactions between the Proudmoores a lot for some reason, they lend a deeper layer of humanity to Jaina and her family, and makes them easier to relate to.
Oh man. That feeling when she’s holding back an ocean, a freaking ocean, from consuming her people… Then when she isn’t afraid of N’zoth and manages to turn the tables on him (or think she did)… Gah. I always liked Azshara before. Now I luff her.
I hate you for this. Also, listen to her while she holds back the water and tell me those aren’t sex sounds she’s making.
Hordeside - all the new areas are really neat and well-done.
Alliance - Drustvar is great; Kul’Tiras is good, but personally, I am tired of the Euro-centric humans-with-some-sort-of-British-accent trope so it’s not my cup of tea.
Sex sounds are pretty much a staple of any effort sounds made by a voice actor. It’s what makes wowhead compilations so funny to listen to because the initial stuff is always attack grunts and what not.
I don’t buy N’zoth was so easily beaten even by Azshara. He’s supposed to be the most manipulative to make up for his overall being the weakest Old God. No way was that enraged rant anything more than a calculated ploy to have her drop her guard and agree to his terms. Look at it this way, a slave with a fancy title is still a slave.
I know, but I want her to be that awesome. I want her to have totally turned the tables on N’zoth and her call-out of him watching her for one thousand years means he needs her. I know it doesn’t matter, either way she serves him as he wanted, but I still like the idea of her being that awesome.
The quests were so entertaining! I absolutely loved ALL of Kul’Tiras, on both sides. Zandalar was good in its own way as well, though I think troll players probably got more out of that than I did.
I also really love the dungeons. I think just about everyone I know says Waycrest Manor is their favorite, it has some kind of Karazhan vibe that’s terribly fun.
While I wasn’t in love with Arathi, Darkshore has been the coolest thing.
All in all, I’ve enjoyed BFA. There are problems with it, and you’ll notice I didn’t mention anything about gearing or raiding, but I’m thoroughly enjoying my time here.
The stories for each of the zones are actually pretty good, imo.
It’s the War Campaign and the overall faction war that Blizzard just can’t seem to write without making one faction the obvious “good guy” and the other faction the defacto villain.
I like that the story is staying completely focused on the war unlike in Cata and later half of MoP. Best part is not a single world ending threat ( Azshara/N’Zoth plz go away.) to get in the way of it all.
I like that the Horde is using diplomacy in Zandalari to get what it wants as oppose to just taking it like in MoP. Each zone had an engaging story and my only complaint is Vol’dun had a lot of filler quest, but the Goldtusks Inn quest was fun.
Had fun with the Horde war campaign and it feels so good that every victory the Horde has had was simply because were fighting dirty.
So far my only complaint I had about the story is Saurfang and Baine, but Blizz remedied that by giving me the choice to not side those two nitwits.
