What was fun in cata?

Honestly cant recall much. I played a lot though from vanilla to panda. But dont recall what was so special in cata. Apart from 2 new races, anything special in gameplay?

doing heroics that required at least a single brain cell between 5 people was fun for 5 minutes before everyone was geared enough to just ignore mechanics like usual
other then that not much

Other than Firelands and old zone heroics that scale to 85 players did sorta like transmog?

Lots of spec changes. Many specs changed from being one button to actually having a rotation.

Don’t know, didn’t play it, can’t wait to find out!

PVP, 10 man raiding being = 25 man, transmog, class design that in most cases improves on Wrath’s, being back in Kalimdor+Eastern Kingdoms

The most common thing seems to be PVP, which is meh. People PVP in WoW because they can’t cut it in legitimate PVP games

The only thing I recall from Cata was when I got back on and my lock which had been 3rd best on the server at the time with full ICC gear had his staff be replaced by an 82 drop from a normal dungeon.

It was pretty disheartening.

In other words, nothing was “fun” about it. It’ll just be a repeat of history with a lot of us saying, “told you so.”

Boomer take. PVP was a cornerstone of the game back in the original rollout. Just because you and so many other classic players are too bad to enjoy it nowadays doesn’t mean that it’s not skill based and fun at a high level.

A lot of classes actually form a distinct and valuable identity. Most specs play completely different from each other even within the same class

Better more challenging dungeons that required group coordination much more like vanilla.

Better raids. Firelands leading the charge better than anything Wrath had. 10m dropping equal loto to 25 made rosters muuuch less rigid

RBGs and PvP zones like Tol Barad.

Better class balance in both PvE and PvP

Transmog breathed life into old content

Most of the glads IK are decently high rank in other games as well.

better question… What’s worse in cata over wotlk?

answer: 0

better pvp
rbg
better dungeons
better raids
better fleshed out specs.

Seriously what’s worse? A quest in the barrens now has a 50% drop rate instead of 5%, but you really really wanted to farm zebras for an hour?

Since TBC WoW has been all about the Raids. The Cata raids are significantly better than the WotLK raids. It’s that simple.

New race and class varietys remember seeing alot of tauren pallies. Rated bgs. The new bgs that were released. Tol borad.

Some of the dungeons. The story in each zone and the fact u could 10 man raid and get the same ilvl gear as a 25 man.

PvP has always been secondary to PvE, though. The game is designed and balanced around the latter and they make it work for the former.

Launch heroic dungeons, the later dungeons added. all the raids except for the last 2 bosses of dragonsoul.

10 man raiding giving out the same loot as in 25 man even legendaries just less.

All the classes are at their peak fun factor in terms of gameplay IMO. Literally all of them. My favorites in cata are Mage, Paladin, Hunter, Rogue, Resto Shaman, and DK.
