What to expect rolling an Alliance toon?

Hey guys! I’m interested in joining this server to avoid the mass overcrowding of MG-A. I’ve had a couple of positive interactions here, but have noticed times when the world is very empty, even trade chat will appear barren.

People who regularly play Alliance on this server- what is your experience, and do you find the lack of people to be an issue in any way?

Additionally, please tell me why you prefer WRA-A over MG-A? I’m interested to hear all the positives you’ve experienced on this server.

Thanks in advance for any responses!

There’s a reason the meme of ‘Moon Guard is for Alliance, Wyrmrest is for Horde’.

All that being said, Duskwood is one of, if not THE RP hub for roleplaying Alliance side, thanks to Thomas Bates. There might be other pockets out there, but that’s the one I’ve known about. The Alliance population on this server is just extremely small.

It’s hard to find RP as an Alliance. But WrA’s Alliance tend to be (in my experience) a little more daring and indulgent and less inflexible.

what do you mean by inflexible?

I prefer WrA Alliance to MG Alliance because we’re smaller, therefore you’re less of just a random face in the crowd and you’re more a part of a community.

If you like the feeling of seeing so many people in a room, then yeah, MG Alliance is better, but I do not. MG Alliance feels like a party where everyone is there but no one is dancing, and there aren’t many people who would give you their numbers, anyway.

I actually find more and better RP on Alliance than Horde here on WrA, personally-- mostly because the issues in VoH as of late. I’ve been told Silvermoon is recovering, but I ah. I don’t like Silvermoon. It is ugly.

The secret to Alliance RP on the server is to just chat with the other Alliance RP’ers, and figure out when they’re online. Wyrmrest Community Project helps with that.

I have two reasons why my Alliance toons are on WrA for the most part. The first is that being active on Horde with my more active characters being neutral, I am more familiar with the Alliance Community here.

My second reason is the Goldshire inn. I really like it for an Rp location but don’t really like what it is on Mg. I don’t mind people doing that sort of thing but it is too full and you can’t really ignore it there. Personally I wish there was another easy to access place for that whole scene but it is what it is.

There are a few campaigns/communities that I am in with alliance guilds and characters; Helping Hands and Dragonscale. Then there is also Duskwood. I have never been myself but I hear so many great things. I admire the work Thomas Bates has done to turn the zone into a Rp hub. I hope to see others follow his example.

I would suggest finding an RP guild. I know two were recruiting this weekend. I saw them openly standing in Cathedral District to talk to people.

Other than that, hit up the Wyrmrest Community Project Discord to find the RP community and events. RP does still happen on Alliance side, but it’s not as open.

One nice thing about how WrA is - practically everywhere is open for a base of operations, including popular taverns.

So I would say I really prefer WrA. As previously mentioned by Kailarra, MG-A is so bustling that it feels like trying to make a connection is just…Daunting and impossible. I feel in WrA people actually remember you. For instance, I went on my mage Daolu to Kunbo’s teahouse after months of not coming (I didn’t feel the urge for RP and the stress of applying to grad school/doing my own academic research just got to me) and was welcomed back! Like from my experience that -doesn’t- happen on MG. It also helps that I have history with this server: Its the first server I started on and I have been on here in an old guild (jadepaw dynasty) since WoD and that probably gives me a bias on liking WrA in general.

That being said there are differences and it takes a while to get that. For instance: Mono-race guilds outside of belf, troll, and tauren guilds don’t really last. Our population is smaller than MG and thats just a reality of being on a smaller server. That being said the guilds that have managed to stick around have STUCK AROUND. They do things, they host events and do guild faires. They’re institutions. I find that incredible.

Lastly I know its a lot of work but, I feel like this server you can really cultivate and let things grow if you want and put in the effort. Want to make a tavern? If you put enough effort and long lasting commitment to the bit people will come if they are able! By extension creating communities that mimic mono-race guilds appear to be a niche that is yet to be filled. (I’ve considered doing a pandaren community after attempting a guild failed).

Ultimately, the decision is up to you but, I also recommend both servers. Try them both and see what meshes. Join the various discords and interact with people. If you want a friend I am frequently available! Though I recognize your name and feel we’ve spoken before.

Eyy welcome to Wyrmrest! I’m extremely flattered by the people that have recommended Duskwood, at the moment we’re the most consistent walk-up rp hub for Alliance on the server. (and sometimes Horde friends say hi too!) We are an evening group though, usually starting around 6-7 server time, and our server time is a few hours off from MG’s, so if you’re used to them that might take some getting used to. We’ve got monthly guild faires for both factions, weekly Stormwind events, and some great guilds on this server! I hope you can find your niche and have a good time. <3

The server time actually works for me since I’m a parent and can’t play until later anyways. It lets me “regain” a couple hours, so to speak. I’ll definitely be dropping into Duskwood once I’ve got a character going. It’ll be cool to get out of SW RP.
