So prepatch goes live. I’ve been running my priest mostly as shadow in a consistent DS run. So far in prepatch, shadow feels great.
But I got asked to heal on 2 bosses… and what the hell…
My disc spec OOMed itself insanely fast. I was OOM while the other heealers were still over 70% mana. (No, I was not spamming bubbles. Mostly atonement with the occasional penance, flash, or prayer).
At the end of the fight, I was dead last on healing AND damage. (not that I really expected to rock the dmg meter as a healer but still… fail at heals and fail at damage… what’s the point of even playing that spec?
So my question is… is disc supposed to oom this fast? I mean it was so bad it feels like a bug. (for example, once when I was on my prot pally, the mana costs of spells were broken and i was going oom in 3 moves. I swapped back to ret and back to prot and all the mana costs changed down to what they should be. Crusader strike like 600 mana instead of 3000 for example). So there’s clearly some wonk sometimes with that.
Did I have a bug with mana somehow? Did something drastically change with disc that I need to reshuffle my gear/reforging around massively so i don’t OOM 20% into the fight? Did Bliz drop the nerf hammer on disc so hard I may as well retire the character? That experience was completely unfun and made me not want to play it anymore. So, I’m hoping it was either a bug or I am doing something wrong there.
(and when I say dead last on heals, I did about 1/5th or so of the heals of the resto shammy. I may as well have stayed DPS and not bothered healing that fight. This is not me complaining that disc isn’t godly anymore, it was so pathetically weak as to be pointless).
No, I followed the Wowhead suggested one and took Solace. Should I use MB instead?
Also should I not be using flash? It’s what I was used to using as a direct heal when penance was on cd
so for Solace you’d need to cast 4-5 casts per minute for it to give the same mana return as Mindbender, with a 10s CD Solace would have to be almost always on CD for it to be worth using over Mindbender.
and even then, Solace doesn’t make your Holy Fire deal much more damage compared to how big of an increase Mindbender is from Shadowfiend
Or a bug. I ran it in a twilight instance a bit ago and it did fine. But that raid the other night, I’d literally cast 4 flash heals and be oom from full mana somehow.
Disc priest mana is the sole reason its terrible in PvP …a large majority of expansions its always one of the first healers to OOM…in pve in MoP you will find that changes as we scale up to 90 but in PvP its still the same…Greater heal is not very reasonable in pvp its a long cast ez to kick react with cc ect. I have mained disc priest in PvP for quite sometime over many expansions ive pushed over 2.4 multiple times…it will 100 percent be an issue in PvP but will be one of the best healers in PvE in MoP … had to edit sorry with the recent changes theyre making on a whim in PvP …healing will be downscaled and games may not last as long…if they go through with this there is a chance that Disc priest will be very playable in PvP
I still find even with MB that I go oom… I just feel like atonement doesnt really do that much to make my go oom. Just like you, i healed a raid and 90% of my casts were atonement spells and I has just getting rekt. My mana was always so low. I have already solo healed the raid with other healers and no problems. I couldnt at all with my disc priest and ive been playing that class for years.
you heal mostly through spirit shell and divine aegis , its a fine healing spec with a lot of value (shields are more powerful than hps), it has ps + hymns + barrier and it adds damage too, the toolkit is the complete package basically which is why the numbers were reduced
the og mop disc priest on the first day of the beta did
nearly top healing (rshamans sometimes took it)
30% of a dps
a standard raid comp of 5/6 healers was going to end up as 50% disc 50% rshaman lol
