returning to classic just wondering what realm I should join so that the world doesn’t feel so empty whenever I’m leveling
I am a fan of RP servers and I’ve played on all three in classic. Of them, I highly recommend Grobbulus for a new player/reroll. Very friendly active leveling community that is relatively easy to find groups.
Note: I play horde there, if anyone from alliance has a different opinion, add that here
Grobb Alliance is awesome.
PvE Horde - Mankirk
PvE Alliance - Pagle
Atiesh - Alliance
Faribanks - Horde
I play on both and always see people leveling.
Pagle-Alliance. biggest sinlge-faction pop of any realm
The thing is there’s only 3 Classic RP Server types. And, 2/3 of them are actually RP-PvP Servers. I’m sure you (as in you, the poster, I quoted) already know this but to others who don’t know, there’s only one single Normal Classic RP Server.
For the RP servers:
If you want to play Horde, probably skip Grobb if you want to do any pugging. Its mostly GDKP spam garbage supporting massive RMT enterprises on the server. Find a nice guild and some friends and Grobb Horde is still good. Just the Pug Life is terrible compared to other servers.
If you want to be Alliance, Grobb and Pagle(PVE) are both good regardless of if you want to pug or guild. I can’t comment on Deviate Delight because I haven’t played there recently.
As someone who played on Grob from classic launch until about a month ago, I must offer a dissenting opinion.
Grob was great, the first 6-8 months. Now, just like all the others big PvP servers (because players from those servers migrated to Grob); full of trolls, meme-sters and jerks. Are there cool people here and there? Of course. But it’s nowhere near the Utopia that RP servers in general, and Grob specifically, used to be. And it definitely isn’t new player friendly. This goes for both Horde, and Alliance.
IK you (as in the person I quoted) probably didn’t mean it this way, but I just want to clarify to others that Pagle is not an RP Server. Yes, I get it, Pagle was used as an example for guiding others to a strong Alliance server. The way it was worded made it seem like Pagle falls under the RP category, still.
Considering, it was lumped in with both Grobbulus (Grobb) and Deviate Delight Delight (DD), both being RP (more like RP-PvP) Servers, made it look like Pagle is, also, an RP Server (it’s not). Grobb and DD are the 2/3 RP Server types that I mentioned, earlier, being RP-PvP. The third RP Server (and the one and only Normal Classic RP Server) is Bloodsail Buccaneers (BB) which is ironically strong for the Alliance
Just wanted to point that out. Despite it being mentioned prior, by other posters, that Pagle is only a Normal Server and not an RP one. Just gets confusing if you’re reading through this comment section
Sorry, I was confusing there, you’re absolutely right and it was my mistake.
None of them feel empty.
No matter where you go there are hundreds and hundreds of bots.
Deviate Delight alliance is where I play the most. It’s a great server, but the population is largely leveled and the leveling community is kind of thin. You can find groups easily for anything 50+, but lower level dungeons can be difficult if you don’t happen to catch the right time
Not true but ok.
lol
OP, you should let us know if you want PvE or PvP.
Just be aware that there could (not saying will) be a fairly large drop off in players a month or two after Naxx is out. For a lot of people, clearning Naxx is their end goal. Once they do it they’ll probably be gone until TBC. For that reason, I’d say you may want to pick a high pop server if you’re leveling from 1
I cannot speak about either (since I don’t play on those Servers via Grobb and DD). I can, however speak on BB. I’m not exactly sure what the OP is looking for in terms of what it means to have a less “empty” world, but I still have luck getting help, as I level through Zones. This is, ofc, for the Alliance side. BB’s Alliance is stronger in numbers compared to Horde. I’ve heard (not sure how true this is) that BB Horde is still doing OK, but I think it’s not as rapid as the Alliance side.
I rolled on BB relatively recently, as opposed to the RP-PvP servers which I’ve been on for all of classic. Overall, the community seems very great, but I have mixed feelings about the activity so far. To preface this, I’ve only leveled to about 20 so far and I have a lot more exploring of the server to do, but:
The good: the low level scene is teeming with life. I was absolutely stunned to see so many people in the earlier leveling zones. I think this is because of all the traffic related to “hardcore” characters coming to BB, but the lower level zones are packed in a way I haven’t seen on any server since the early days of classic. Way more people in this bracket than DD, and even more than Grob which has 3-4 times the population.
The bad: I worry about the max level population. I haven’t gotten to 60 on BB yet, but when I visit the cities, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of people hanging around and trade chat isn’t very active. BB and DD are supposedly about the same size, but the areas where max level players and RPers hang out on DD seem empty, maybe I’m looking in the wrong places, but DD usually has max level players and RPers all over the town square in both IF and SW and that doesn’t really seem to be the case on BB. Perhaps they all hang out somewhere else I haven’t discovered yet, but it does give me a little pause. Granted also, I play at odd hours, I typically get home from work around 7 pm pacific time and play after that, which is 10 pm server, but DD is an east coast server too, so I’m comparing my experience playing at the same odd hours on both servers.
The unknown: I’m curious how active the server is going to be as I get into the 30s and 40s. DD is relatively quiet in that bracket, and I’m hoping the activity that I’m seeing at the low levels will carry through the 30s and 40s with people doing SM and ZF and such.
They will all feel empty. You’ll just run into Billy, leveling his 20th alt, that he’s going to start boosting as soon he’s in range of SM levels.
I may be stretching this here, but I think the “good” is why this part of the “bad” is happening. The population is out in the world instead of just hanging around Major Cities.
It’s slow, but I still get hits upon my requests. Just takes time. Even if I’m the only one saying anything. I don’t mind it being quiet, though. I like how it’s not infested with too much outside game chatter. It tends to stick with Trade Goods Chat.
I do see your point and agree that BB doesn’t have much Major City RP going on. They happen sometimes but probably not as much as DD. I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it, again. I’ll even link to my post about this:
And, I hear you, on this. I’m PST, too and BB is EST. Although, I’m going to be moving to EST soon but for awhile, I’ve been PST. It’s slow (which I don’t mind), but I can’t imagine how much slower it is compared to Horde side, since I play Alliance, over here. I just don’t think it’s impossible. There will be times, it’s going to take you over 20 minutes to form something. I hussle and have no issues asking in obscure places to get help
No issues running these, ever. ZF moreso than SM, IMO. SM hardly ever have any issues getting a group together for this. Especially on Alliance side, despite us not having Mounts until 40, and the FPs being so far away from the dungeon itself. All participants hussle and migrate their happy behinds all the way over to SM LOL
I say this as someone that does the FORMING. I don’t sit around waiting for somebody else to be forming a group. No. If I want to run a dungeon, I gather the people for MY group. That’s not to say, if I see an advertisement for a run, I won’t go. No. I will, if I’m able to. But, most of the time, I’m forming my own group, and the response is really positive.
