What mistakes have you made in vanilla, that you'll try to avoid now?

But the burning question is. . . did you wear any of the leather gear?

I will find you, and camp you for hours.

I didn’t spend enough time on my RP server during Vanilla, I was definitely there a lot but not as much as I would have liked to have been. I took it for granted and before I knew it I returned to a pile of burning rubble. Providing Blizzard doesn’t add microtransactions, sharding, CRZ, the servers don’t crash when 20 people are in the same zone etc and there’s an RP server I’ll be there mostly with an alt on a PVP realm.

Assuming I play Classic (I definitely would if characters could be transferred to the main game for the sake of Transmog but never be transferred back), I will most definitely not play Paladin. I tried Ret Paladin Vanilla, and Prot as Tanking has always been my thing. Really sucked to be told Paladins could neither tank, nor deal meaningful damage. It was common for players to be quite rude to Paladins, often saying. “Shut up and heal”.

Seal of Command + Auto Attack was meh.
Had it’s moments in higher PVP sure, but it was still bleh.

Warlock was fun in Zul’Gerub though.

I dunno. I might try my hand at Rogue, Mage, Shaman, or Druid. Dunno yet. The fact that I can’t recover transmogs that I have on other toons but can’t use because their the wrong Armor Class (My Paladin used and still has Alanna’s Embrace). The fact that despite this my Priest cannot mog it really sits ill with me. I don’t know if Classic will be worth my time to be honest.

Not getting one of the original model epic mounts before they were removed and replaced.

I was Horde when these were removed, and I regret not working towards the Ivory Raptor or a few of the others. On Alliance side I would have loved to get the Palomino, but when I rerolled Alliance the mounts were already retired anyway.

I leveled holy priest solo as well (EDIT: all the way to 70 in TBC, scary enough). I did do dungeons, but I also spent a chunk of time channel RPing which led to a lot of deaths where my chat line had a whole string of 11111222ssssswwwww. I can’t say for sure if I’ve learned from that as a mistake though. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

First 60 was a shaman and I was forced to heal to raid but I wanted to pvp and didn’t have 100g every time:( so not rolling a shaman.

Bornakk? There’s a CM I haven’t seen in years, I had no idea you were still with blizz. You were a regular poster back in ~2007!

I didn’t spec goblin engineering.

i level to 60 as a prot warrior

i will not be doing that again

Letting horde live on occasion.

I always main a rogue - but this time around I will take enchanting and tailoring to start namely for the most important thing in Vanilla…

Bag and bank space. It’s enormously expensive at the start. Space is at a premium and making money and providing any alts with “free” bags is a big money saver.

I shall avoid exploring and not properly level my character cus I was a dumb child.

I shall avenge you childhood!

I’ll avoid casting PW: Fortitude on myself this time.

True story: My first day, first char was a priest. Got my PW:Fort and went behind Goldshire inn to test it. Found a wolf, targeted it and clicked my new shiny spell. Nothing. So I tried again and got pretty spooked when it took a chunk of my own health. Couldn’t understand why would they make such a horrible spell and rerolled immediately.

Great question and I think the answer for me is raiding. I started in patch 2.4 so I missed “classic” altogether, and over time I’ve realized what I really missed out on. I’m our raid lead now in retail for our guild and I’m not sure I’d want to do that in classic, but participate - you bet! And the opening on Ahn’qiraj - without the server problems they had the first time around? Yes and thank you!!

Thankfully I was never in any bad guilds, but I think finding a good guild will sort of make or break classic or me. Not that I need people to run with all the time, but a solid group of folks to sometimes have fun with, in PvE, is important to me.

10/10/10 spec leveling as a paladin

Oh, yes - another set of mistakes had to do with not being familiar with the map.

Level 20 (at best) should never go north on the road through the middle of Ashenvale. Staying on the road doesn’t help when dozens of bears and wolves, sickly-looking ones, come streaming from every direction in Felwood.

Swapping factions, and running right into Crossroads as an Alliance toon when I was passing through Barrens … ouch!

I did the exact same thing @ lvl 28 except I had a few annoyed looking tree ents at the same time. My guild at the time thought it was hilarious.
I didn’t go back to felwood till I was in the mid 50’s and got my revenge.

On one hand it seems almost trivial now, but it was a big pain at the time… Not keeping up with my professions.
