So recently I spent some time on the word of pvp subreddit and it was just such an awful experience. Why is the subreddit for pvp so awful?
Do you guys think it’s the anonymity or redditors are just the worst in general?

Anonymous and hivemind voting system. You could post correct info and it could get buried because the first four people who saw it disagreed or thought it wasn’t true.
Still, there’s more than a bit of okay or good stuff on there.
Both. You’re more likely to get check-pvp’d in the forums so your opinions are immediately invalided if you’re not 2400.
Feels like a bunch of posters here play warriors and then all the posters on Reddit play warlocks lol. Too many warlock tears for me
Uhhh, I think a lot of the time it’s a lack of willingness to adjust. Everybody has their winrate stabilize somewhere, and that’s fine, but to kind of shoot down every bit of advice given by people that can be 400-800 cr higher just leads people to think that the questions being asked weren’t in good faith.
There’s having an actual dialog then there’s just venting/ranting.
And I think that’s what that subreddit comes down to. Venting and ranting, but maybe that’s redditors in general.
That’s game “discussion” in a nutshell.
Reddit in general is bad source of information. Because people are more likely to say whatever will get likes. Ofc that can happen anywhere but the system there really encourages it.
I think there’s like3 good players that post there in total
the vast majority are casuals who are sitting on Reddit all day jumping between triple A game releases
or low xp players that don’t wanna hear that them being 1700 is their fault when they complain about dumb stuff
I don’t think “worst” is the right word
Reddit is hugely anecdotal. Which has its benefits, even beyond wow discourse.
I’ve noticed the Arena Forum is very pragmatic, data-driven, and credential-focused. All of which is ideal for obvious reasons.
It’s pretty silly to think one anonymous forum is better than the other anonymous forum. Reddit has a ton of great information alongside a ton of bad information. Identical to these forums.
My issue with reddit, almost anything to do with reddit, is that the way you get karma is weird and doesn’t often make sense. If you ask a question someone doesn’t think you should ask which is entirely subjective and downvotes it; all of a sudden you lose a bunch of karma.
I found it extremely weird since the question was posted in a related forum that is supposed to be there for that purpose.
There are many examples of that and not just of my own, but generally speaking.

Reddit does some stuff that this forum doesn’t do well. Younger players with the anxiety bug, for example, probably feel a lot more comfortable talking about their hobby anonymously where there aren’t rabid 15 year experienced players constantly running check pvp on them to discount everything that they have to say.
On the other hand, you encounter the general Reddit problem. Anonymous people on the internet are anonymous people on the internet. You are as likely in any given Reddit community to find highly upvoted bad information because that’s what the hive liked the best.
But most people choose to not be anonymous on this forum unlike Reddit, besides of course lvl 24 troll death knights.
Reddit in general is extremely hivemind.
If you don’t fit within their exact frame of thought you’ll be downvoted to the bottom of the pit.
With that said, you can use this to farm karma easily there if you wanted to. Post what people want to see and you’ll be drowning in fake internet points.
This forum is 90% the same 10 posters on their alts. Like it’s any better here.
Reddit also won’t ever be able to successfully IPO. Two main things hold them back:
Investors want to see a way to market to individuals through the platform. When you use a free social media/web2.0 platform, you are actually the product. The fundamentals of anonymity cause a lot of friction here.
Investors are wise to botting and AI as it pertains to inflated usage and interaction data. If you are going to charge advertisers by click or interaction, you need to be able to prove a certain level of integrity in this data such that they’re not throwing money at bots.
Showing people your character details isn’t de-anonymizing yourself. Your character is still anonymous big guy.
That’s the reason the entire forum had an absolute fit when blizzard was going to make forum names REAL ID names. Because people wanted to remain anonymous.
Yeah, I’m getting a good laugh at the people thinking it’s significantly different here.
There is still that degree of anonymity, yes. You don’t know my first or last name. But you can at least see the character I’m posting from. You just see a random username on Reddit and have to trust that they aren’t lying about their achievements that they put in their flair. It’s like everyone there is the equivalent of the alt classic accounts that post here pretending to be multiglads.
Hey big guy, no one cares who you are outside of the game when talking about the game.
Reddit you don’t even know who they are inside the game, just like a lvl 24 troll death knight.
