Thought this would be a fun thread as we’re all waiting for servers. When you started playing, what made you choose your first character?
I started with a Blood Elf Hunter back in Cata, I chose that based solely off of the dragonhawk shown in the character creation screen & I liked the look of the starter armor. It was my first MMO so there were things I didn’t understand, like how you could change your pet and tame new ones, or that you got different armor from your starting armor, writing it out it sounds pretty dumb, but I was 9 and had no idea what MMOs were when I started.
I was thinking of Warlock because I also liked the look of the Imp, but ultimately chose Hunter. If I had known you could get different demons though? My choice may have changed.
By technicality my first character was a Draenei Mage in BC, but I was 4 and didn’t know how to work a keyboard, and I died to moths and got confused. RIP Gjnewfqmwm, you will not be forgotten.

I made a human mage in Vanilla because I knew 2 people who played as a warrior and a rogue so they said a ranged class would be good. Human because I was silly and wanted her to look like me. By the end of Vanilla I switched to a priest and have kept her ever since.

My very first character was a Tauren Warrior because WOW was the first game I played where you could play a monster race and I thought being a Minotaur would be cool.

Started playing the first week WoW was out and the very first character I made was a Forsaken Warlock because zombies are cool and I thought necromancers from EverQuest were cool.
But my friends were playing Alliance so I made a nelf Hunter because again, I always thought Rangers from EverQuest were cool.
Rule of cool I guess.

Tauren feral druid named Furrball in BC.
Co-worker managed to sell WoW to me by talking about the different classes and was like, “Dude, you can turn into a freakin’ lion and stealth and maul people, then turn into a bear and be tanky and stuff!”
While it sold me to get into playing, I was… Incompetent at druid during BC and didn’t really hit a good stride until Wrath.

I started playing two weeks before TBC dropped. My RL friend talked me into rolling alliance so I started a human paladin. HATED it at the time. I switched to horde and made an undead warlock and LOVED it. While technically it was a human paladin I didn’t even make it to level 5, I still claim it was an undead warlock.

Simply wanted to make her a vampiric blood moon priestess, well by the looks of me, that did not go through to well. Simply because there are hardly any black and red druid sets for alliance. Some here and there but not the theme i was going for
Now Marrian represents my pagan self

When I started, my friend played a Blood Elf Priest, and he told me to try Druid because it has all the different roles available, so I made a Troll Druid because I thought Tauren were ugly

First character I got past 30 was a night elf hunter with a nightsaber pet. I liked the class and at the time wanted to be the original archetype, so I made a stereotype on purpose pretty much.

First toon was during the later stages of Vanilla - a Human Male Mage because I just wanted to try out the game, who sadly I deleted rather than kept.
Then I decided to immerse myself in the game and went Undead Female Priest and still have and use regularly this character today.
When TBC came out I made a Blood Elf Paladin who I also still have and use regularly today - but I did a Faction change to Alliance and went with Draenei.
My other “main” is a Draenei Female Hunter because collecting rare pets is a passion.
I have a heap of other characters who get used from time to time and am currently levelling one of every class for each Faction (already done all Alliance except Warlock) but they wont get used at level 70.

I played a forsaken mage. I chose a forsaken because the undead army in Warcraft 3 was the one that I had the most fun playing.

Druid. They had a lot of versatility/options in play in each of the specs and they had good mobility.
Ultimately didn’t play it very long. Made a hunter which I’d say was more of my starter; to which was because my husband main’d it so he showed me how to play it coming into the game.
Had I been able to make a DH off the bat though, I’m sure that’s what I would have chose and did as soon as I could make one. :3

I was playing FF XI at the time, and my character was an elvaan there. When I started up WoW, I was immediately drawn to blood elves, so it seemed like the logical choice to make a blood elf. I had watched the trailers for the game and mage looked really cool, so that is what I went with.

A human warrior, or paladin can’t ever remember. Was on a friend’s account back then since my internet could barely download img files in 10 minutes. But after we had a fight in school he deleted it, so I went and bought the game, did odd jobs as a kid to pay for better internet…made an undead warrior with the same name, and hunted my friend down for months with a few guilds.
_> moral of the story, don’t delete your friend’s AQ ready toon just because your hoe butt paladin can’t dps.

My friend was a resto shaman and he wanted to teach me how to play the game. I picked panda for the food buff.

First race and class was a Gnome Rogue. Because I was playing with family and they all were those. But then they all leveled ahead, I got behind. I ended up quitting because Vanilla leveling took so long that once I was behind, it just felt lonesome.
I came back in WoD and created this character. I also have my Dwarf Shaman Bootylikepow. I didn’t play her much though. Just for some dungeons. I primarily played the Blood Elf with friends. We leveled together and then raided together. I had to quit progression due to illness. Then most of them quit.
It’s quite the sad tale.

i started playing right at the end of tbc and wotlk was getting hyped. i worked at arby’s and this co worker would always talk about world of warcraft and how she would pvp and kill opposing faction players. I remember making a blood elf paladin and dying to a bat as soon as i crossed over into ghostlands for the first time. Left that toon and re rolled alliance human paladin on blackrock for the looooooongest time.
