I think the combat is fun but it could be better. Though I will say, this isnāt the best God of War game. I think in some aspects I prefer GOW4. GOWR just felt really restrictive.
Once I found out how to juggle enemies, the combat really lost its luster for me, though I do enjoy the boss battles. And when Iām controlling Atreus.
I like the story a lot more with Ragnarok though.
Atreusās combat felt really rushed to me. Especially his āspartan rageā. The animations are extremely off. His combat just felt repetitive, it almost feels like there was supposed to be more for him. Though I am curious to see where they go with the next game, youāll see what I mean once you finish.
I think Iāve already realized what youāre hinting at, based on the story so far.
I have a lot of favorite games but the oneās i sink the most time in are:
- Dragon Force (Sega Saturn - Actual Hardware). At 1,000+ played hours since i bought it brand new back in the day at Toys R Us.
- Cybersleuth. I am sitting at over 900 hours played on this one.
- Hackers Memory. I am sitting at over 900 hours played on this one as well.
- Party Hard. I probably have more than a few hundred hours put in on it at this point.
Delta Force 2
Diablo 3 and ESO. I wanna check out hogwarts legacy.
You definitely donāt, if you have any questions about the ending feel free to ask.
If it didnāt completely break, my favorite would have been Skyrim
Mass Effect Series and the Elder Scrolls Series
Two games Iām looking forward to playing is Hogwarts Legacy and Diablo 4 when they come out.
Some games that come to mind
Rimworld
Skyrim
Daggerfall
The Long Dark
Super Metroid
Doom 1/2
Minecraft
Chrono Trigger.
Digimon World 3
RTS/strategy guy at my core. The instant chaos dwarfs come out on total war warhammer, wow may be put on a VERY prolonged absence.
So yeah, despite decades gaming, Iāll say the total war warhammer trilogy.
I forgot to mention this one, but itās my favorite sports-themed game of all time: NBA Hangtime / Maximum Hangtime. NBA Jam and NBA Jam Tournament Edition were a ton of fun, but Hangtime just ratcheted that fast-paced action up a notch. Plus, even compared to the 32-bit versions of Jam T.E., the home ports of Hangtime were just simply much better ports all around.
The 16-bit versions of Jam and Jam T.E. ported by Iguana were okay enough (had a whole lot of fun with them)(and Iguanaās T.E.-based College Slam is decent on the PS1/Saturn/DOS/SNESā¦the Genesis port, so much uglier than Jam/JamT.E. for some reason). However, FunCom knocked it out of the park with the SNES and Genesis ports: they are massively better than the ports of Jam/T.E., and they even have an amazing new theme song composed by legendary C-64 composer (did some great NES tunes as well) Jeroen Tel (plus, the SNES port of Hangtime has actual in-game music, unlike the creepily silent ports of Jam and Jam T.E.). The PSX port is great, and the N64 version is great as well (and has a few visual enhancements over the arcadeā¦and was the first game I personally bought for the N64 in early '98 after my sister and I got the system for Christmas '97).
Though I already had the N64 and Genesis versions of Hangtime, I spent a ton of time in fall of '98 playing Maximum Hangtime (and lots of Gauntlet Legends, another favorite [along with Gauntlet Dark Legacy] I forgot to includeā¦) on my off-time when working at my 2nd job ever at a theater.
Though I also bought all of Midwayās later 3d arcade-style basketball games, none of them really capture the same pure, raw fun as Jam and Hangtime. Acclaimās NBA Jam games they made after stealing the license away were terrible. EAās attempt at it later in the 00s was pretty fun, but still as good as Hangtime.
Raw fun is my top criteria with a game (and maybe thatās because arcade-style games are what I grew up initially on: arcade games as various places nearby and us having momās Atari 2600 since before I was born in '82 plus dad buying a used Phoenix cocktail arcade cabinet just before I was born, and I kept playing the VCS/2600 sometimes even after getting an NES in '87). Which is why I love NBA Hangtime so much (as does my younger sisterā¦she bought an N64 and a copy of Hangtime when she was in college in the the late 00sā¦plus, she met her husband while playing an NBA Jam cab at Galloping Ghost arcade about 5-6 ago lol)ā¦NBA Hangtime and Jam etc are just absolutely pure, raw, adulterated arcade-style fun. Thatās all that matters to me in the end: how much fun a game is (sometimes WoW is not that, even though broadly-speaking I do love it).
Iām sure some of playerbase here has fond memories of, if not NBA Hangtime or Maximum Hangtime, at least NBA Jam, Jam T.E., or College Slam. However, one more sports games I want to mention, which probably no one but myself cares about, is Jack Nicklaus Unlimited Golf or Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf. I donāt care at all about real-world golf, but my uncle had these for MS-DOS, and I fell in love with video game golf playing them on his 286 PC. I rented the NES Jack Nicklaus Golf game, but didnāt own it. My uncle bought me the Game Boy port, which is actually, IMO, the best of the ports of the Jack Nicklaus golf game to consoles/handhelds (if you donāt count Mean 18 as part of the series: the Atari 7800 version of that has impressively fast-loading screens). Itās so much more performant than the others, and you can actually play a game in a decently short amount of time unlike the NES, Genesis, TG-16/TurboCD, and especially SNES version. I got the Genesis Jack Nicklaus Power Challenge Golf game as a birthday or christmas gift from my uncle one year, and itās not bad but not nearly as good as the PC games, which I did get to borrow when we got a PC in '93.
Iāve bought a few other golf games over the years, but the only ones Iāve liked as much as Jack Nicklaus Unlimited and Jack Nicklaus Signature Edition are Jack Nicklaus 4, Jack Nicklaus 6, Front Page Sports Golf (FPS Golf) from Sierra, the Mario Golf series, Disney Golf on PS2, and Outlaw Golf 2 (and Neo Turf Masters is the most āpure funā golf game ever made too).
I donāt really like golf, but I think itās the physics that attract me to the golf video games.
Of all time? Hard to say. But I still really, really enjoyed Dues Ex: Human Revolution.
Mass Effect 2 may also be up there.
That I currently play frequently? Probably Total War: Warhammer 3.
Prior to that I was playing AC Odyssey which was surprisingly fun.
I donāt really have a main secondary game these days. It used to be POE or LoL depending on my mood. But the last POE season I played was bad, Iām also pretty tired of leveling up in that game.
And LoL has beenā¦ blegh, for a good while now. Although I must confess Iāve had an increased urge to play it over the past week or two.
Iām having more fun with Pokemon Violet and Disneyās Dreamlight Valley than I am in WoW ATM. As for favorites I would have to say Zelda games, Baldurās Gate games or FF games.
Rust but after hitting 10k hrs I got burnt out. Iām looking forward to FF16 atm
