What is your favorite era of WoW and why?

If its not vanilla, ill take whatever is current. My true love these days is questing, acheievrments, and hoping someone in my guild says “gratz” when i get an achievement.

Wrath of the Lich King.

Raiding was far more simple, frequent and easy going — with a lot more rewards (mounts for example), achievements to further rewards and currencies that could be gained & prove useful for even those who had surpassed the gear looted from that raid content.

Not to mention the STORY — Mfffph  It was juicy & fantastic for most of us (Not all, understandably – as that’ll never be the case with any game).

Personally, my favourite aesthetics in the expansion was Ulduar — I loved walking amongst its halls, seeing the flowing magics and being in awe of the starry statues & tapestries that were presented throughout the area.

I’d thought the Sin’dorei wouldn’t get much attention anymore after BC, but during the Argent Tournament we had the Quel’Delar storyline and got to see some bonus lore content on them, which I also loved; it felt like the story was great all around on several varying layers & narratives.

Ultimately? There were multiple positives I had on Wrath — Especially with the company of my guild & most of all the friends I made in the game that I still have to this day

Interesting because I played TBC and TBC classic and it felt exactly the same!! I had such a good experience with the remake, couldn’t believe how hyped and awesome the community was. I wish they had of left tbc servers

I think back then the biggest thing was playing with my nephew and all that. It was new and no one knew anything.

The realm I was on ultimately I switched servers and its just gdkp spam and its just… idk

Yes, they were. Adding more abilities makes the scaling more difficult, but not impossible.

Two separate issues but neither means the old trees were not scalable. You should probably take some time and learn what “scalable” means.

Every era had elements I liked and disliked.
There is no era I want to go back and live in.
I want the game to keep moving forward.

Classic, then Wrath.

I’ve played since WoW was 6 mos. old, so near as launch Classic as possible. To this day, I enjoy Classic everything, quests, tradeskills, dungeons, raid(s). After you’ve played retail for a few years, you might find the challenges of Classic refreshing. NTM it’s awesome seeing Azeroth as it was originally.

Wrath was my favorite xpac – the story was compelling; questing was great and very well-planned; dungeons were fun and the raids were awesome. The Wrathgate event was stunning and evocative and I never wanted to kill any NPC more.

My favorite era was the social era… which (roughly) coincided with the og/Classic era of expansions (2004-2010)

You more recent guys have no idea what you missed out on. Say if you started playing in MoP or WoD, or Legion - the social scene had already been dead for years at that point

If you were fortunate/lucky enough to play in the very early times… when there was still a sense of wonder alongside a strong/vibrant social scene and community, you know exactly what I’m talking about - it was magical :ok_hand:

Wrath has a lot going for it. It’s the conclusion of WC3’s story, and the fight with Arthas is epic. He’s one of the few fights where we actually lose and it’s the NPC that saves us.

The zones were great and the music was beautiful. MoP has my favorite zones/music, but Grizzly Hills is definitely up there for my all time favorite WoW music scores.

You’re absolutely right. I’ve tried for a long time to get into vanilla, but just couldn’t. I’m giving it another go with my Friends from Cata, and it’s way more fun this time around. Vanilla seems like it’s best experienced with friends. Questing together as a group is less stressful and way more enjoyable.

I started back during Cata launch. Before they had CRZ. Even in Cata, there was still a lot of social interaction, but after they pushed out CRZ, that just killed all social aspects of the game. There was no more server identity. You used to know people from your server. As you quest/level, you would get to know people. But they pulled the plug on that :\

Classic has the best vibe.

Legion.

Honorable mention is Wrath. It was when I first started playing so I tried out everything except Arena. I wanted to experience as much of the game as possible.

They weren’t, that’s why they nuked them.

You can keep being wrong if you like, but I won’t respond again.

You are demonstrably wrong, just based on the fact that they don’t exist anymore.

I know what the word means. You clearly don’t. The old trees weren’t, which can also be proved by simply visiting Classic.

Have fun being wrong. I’m moving on now.

Vanilla was the best. Lots of friends who played, everyone was new and learning and there was so much interaction in the open world. People asking for help on quests, you had to do the same, and when you ran into the opposing faction it was always on. Southshore vs Taren Mill and STV PvP was really fun.

I never played Legion b/c of pathfinger. I’m playing it now and it’s thoroughly enjoyable, so long as you can fly.

The Now era. It’s here, I’m here, old friends are gone and new ones are great.

I don’t want to wax poetic about days long ago when there’s a new season coming, the Sirens wailing will be behind us and…yeah it’s just a game. :slightly_smiling_face:

Everything prior dungeon finder, gearscore, crossrealm, and phasing

Just the *era that I started playing, which was wrath. But I think it could be summed up better by saying the era before zone scaling, LFR, and zone sharding or whatever.

I wont forget those big uglies in near undead starting area that were 5 levels above me I tried to kill and getting mashed to pulp. Or wandering into a zone where all the mobs had skulls instead of their level and being curious about what they were, getting myself killed.

Basically my favorite era was when I was new to the game, and getting flamed for having int gear on my ret paladin. Those were the best of times.

Vanilla - Wrath was the golden era, imo. Late Wrath and Cataclysm were alright in and of itself, but it began trends that led into modern WoW, such as LFG tools and thus players becoming less social.

Everything afterwards was just trend-chasing and ended up hurting the game in the long run.

Nobody would’ve ever thought of WoW as an E-Sport in those early days, fast forward to today, and you’ve got M+ and people defending it saying it’s the only reason they play anymore.

Also, the seasonal model.

Not sure what else Blizzard could do to retain players, though.

I feel for people that never got to enjoy WoW in its heyday, it felt like a steal for how much fun we got in relation to the cost, lol.

I feel like no later WoW expansion, or any game really, came close to the value you got from buying Vanilla in 2004-5. There was too much game for the price.

Vanilla and it’s not close, but TBC would be next. Those were the days that I enjoyed pretty much all aspects of the game… after that I started to narrow down what I liked (and didn’t like) to play.
