Last time I checked it was the bone raptor archaeology mount , I think its still the same
I have a few of the starting shirts from back in the day, & yeah, I still have the original item in character’s banks. I also still have extras of the Twilight Cultists’ 3-piece sets in alt guild banks. And i have the pets from the CEs from BC on up.
I’m miffed I can’t recover mine. I did the questline in BC as Alliance, faction changed to Horde in Cata, back to Alliance in WoD… and now the NPC who can supposedly restore it doesn’t offer the option.
At least I have the legacy achievement for defeating the original Onyxia, which inherently proves I obtained the amulet. Also honorary mention to the Scepter of the Shifting Sands.

No it was available to Horde. I was Horde at the time and that novelty was a big reason I got it. But your point for Alliance players is valid. Maybe I was the only one who thought a tauren riding an Alliance looking ram was funny at the time. 
I, like thousands of others, lost every item from a full guild bank 5 months ago:
I lost many rare items, from every expansion, even vanilla.
I hope this never happens again, but everyone should be aware that your items and data cannot be considered sacred or safe anymore.

rarest? no clue. i’m not very well-versed on WoW-item/mount rarities.
i did have spawn of horridon, and clutch of ji-kun, but their rarity went down the tubes when MoP-remix happened, so… can’t use them as my example… uh… i have the valentines mount (got it on the old droprate!), both the brewfest mounts, both firelands mounts, invincible, and the razzashi raptor from zul’gurub though!
other than that, i’m not very good at knowing what’s considered ‘rare’ that i have…
Ah, fair enough. I wasn’t really playing much Horde at the time, so I was just going off of what the websites were saying.

Nothing too crazy, I didn’t start until cata. My original character has the enchant rods & I just got Nalak’s mount on this toon yesterday, I didn’t think I’d ever get any of the pandaren 4 mounts, only one I got thus far.
A toss-up between the Carrot on a Stick trinket, and the bell, wheel and candle items my warlock has from doing the Dreadsteed questline…back when paying 250g for them was quite a financial burden.
