What is the point of a 10s cooldown on Soar?

Seems absurd to add a 10s CD to soar. I can think of no reason for it, and am curious of their rationale behind it.

Even without the CD it doesn’t replace other mounts due to not being able to use it to move faster on the ground. Likewise, the 10s cd means we cant rely on it as a replacement for our go-to flying mount either, especially for those engaged in activities that reliably take less than 10s between landing and taking off. Not only this, but Druids have (or will have? Cant remember if it was released this patch or was announced for next xpac) just a superior version of our own Soar for themselves, as Flight form is already instant cast, has no CD, and will have toggleable functionality to work as either a standard flying mount or a dragonriding mount. The ONLY “balance” reason I can think of is that casting Soar lifts you off the ground as a sort of free Liftoff, and if that is the purpose of this 10s cd it seems wholly unnecessary to me.

It just seems odd to me that Dracthyr will have a worse version of dragonriding than Druids, and if Blizzard’s goal was to open up Soar as a reliable dragonriding option for Dracthyr I feel this fails to accomplish that goal.

the 10s cooldown starts immediately upon launch, it’s not that big of a deal. What is a big deal is game randomly deciding to drop your speed by more than half on every zone transition. soar is literally unusable in this state. I made this quick video to illustrate what I mean.

Any cooldown is too much, it is equal to or worse than a mount in every way so it is pointless to use

Agreed. The caveat of a 10s cooldown is wholly unnecessary. It’s half a mount with a cooldown on it for… reasons.

You mean besides the part where you get a free/better “skyward ascent” by activating soar?

How exactly is it half a mount? Because it’s not a ground mount too?

I don’t see why they need a 10s cd on it either (maybe 3-4 so you can’t just use it to freely climb without vigor, not sure what the reason is) but my god, this is all so dramatic.

Just wait until they are in soar and they lose half their speed for no reason

Yeah that part’s actually ridiculous but I’m sure it’s an oversight. Should be fixed by 11.2.5.

It’s been broken for some time, though apparently its only for preservation that it does this.

I mean, isn’t that the point of the passives? Regen from gathering and kills. Gathering and killing becomes a pain in the butt if the packs/nodes are too close together (or die too quick in combats case). Sit there with your thumb up your butt waiting for the last few seconds of the cd to tick down. Just wholly unnecessary when vigor hasn’t been an issue for a long time I feel.

New soar, baring the speed drops, is amazing. But we DO need a ground mount Hover form to go from gimmick mount to usable mount.

I’ve said it in multiple other treads, the fix could be so easy. Just make Hover duration infinite when used out of combat and add mount speed to it, just like ghost wolf or travel form. That shouldt be too hard to implement.

Ghost wolf and travel form are non combat forms that prevent the use of most of your spells and really aren’t comparable to hover.

Happens for me in Aug too. Mildly irritating, if only because I usually fly so high that I have vigor to spare to instantly regain speed.

10 sec c/d starts on flight, plus we get a free vigor on launch. I am pretty happy with it. They do need to fix the zone slows.

I feel like they would need to change the animation if they did this. Hover in general looks kind of wonky when activated. Having to look at that indefinitely when on the ground would be kind of ridiculous lol.

sometimes soar bugs out and doesn’t cancel when you land, and so you still have your dragonriding hotbar but are just running around at mount speed lol
