That would likely be Street Fighter II back in the day.
Sooooooo many quarters. So so many…
Probably Lord of the Rings Online. Preordered the collector’s edition then bought the lifetime subscription when offered with the preorder.
In my youth we spent so many quarters PER DAY when we played, that the barkeep actually had to empty the machine once so it could take more quarters.
It was the KISS pinball machine.
“Do you kids even remember KISS? Christ, I’m old…”
(Mike Bracken quote, LOL)
That would be the Diablo franchise, all the games, some collectibles, figures and what not, even named my jet black rescue cat Lilith. Actually I have not got the next xpac yet, D4 was a let down for me, no Paladin class, still! Then hearing the next Xpac won’t be coming until 2026 hasn’t got me fired up much either.
So yeah Diablo.
Then Mario Bros.
I play a mobile game called Marvel Strike Force and I’ve been playing since it came out. So probably about 20 grand deep over 6 years or so.
Singular game, EverQuest. But MMOs feel like cheating in this sorta conversation.
Including DLCs probably Total War Warhammer II. It’s one of the few games I bought additional stuff for.
But a single lump sum, I spent $90.00 on D4 which to this day still stings as a colossal waste of money. I think I had 20 hours of play time, none of which I really enjoyed.
Oh boy,
Confession time.
There was an AMAZING mobile game back in 2013 called Brave Frontier. It was such a nostalgia trip for old school RPG fans, very pixel art early Final Fantasy - esque, with fantastic animations and progression for all your heroes.
Sadly, it shut down back in 2022.
I over the course of 8 years of playing it I probably sank about $3k - $4k on that game. Good times. No regrets.
Thankfully I’m not a mobile game enjoyer…
But my wife probably has me beat, she spends so much on Monopoly Go.
Wouldn’t surprise me if she’s spent more on that game in a year than I have in 15 years of WoW lmao
Im not going to dig through transaction history for a number, but it was probably BDO. Between cash shop outfits, housing items, and account upgrades, plus their version of a sub, yeah that added up over time way faster than wow.
And thats not even partaking in the p2w item upgrade stuff.
Destiny 2. Every expansion, a few knicknacks from the Bungie store.
SMITE. I had a skin problem. Not looking forward to SMITE2 telling me just how many gems I bought over the years.
Spent on a game but not for me… My wife has Sims 3 with all expansions and addon packs. I don’t know how much it really is though.
Pokémon go. Probably.
oh god dont remind me on the sims 4 i have about almost every expansion, im not sure if they have added more since then.
edit: I don’t they added more
Hogwarts Legacy, and all the DLC packs. Amazing game!
She just started playing Sims 4 and collecting stuff there.
Archage (when it was new, not later… ugh…) . I don’t want to say how much but lets just say the housing got me very hooked and I had a whale of a time.
WoW is easily the most expensive game I own, due to decades of sub fees lol.
After that, though?
That’s a hard one.
Probably the Monster Hunter series games, like World and Rise, and soon-to-be, Wilds.
It’s one of the few games I’ll actually buy cosmetics for, like Wyverian ears for example.
DLCs for those too.
I don’t buy cosmetics from games, unless I feel like they’ve really earned my trust.
And Monster Hunter indeed has, been playing since Tri on the Wii.
