10+ years on and off trying to get the time-lost proto-drake. Saw his body twice. Never saw him live. Stopped trying when they announced the squish for SL.

Not one item, more like one set. I spent two or three years collecting the Dreadnaught armor from the BMAH. Some items like the belt or shoulders I’d lose multiple times and they wouldn’t spawn again for several months on my server. Belt was the last piece I needed and I got fed up and bid 1M gold at the beginning of the day just to finish the set. Belt definitely isn’t worth 1M gold, I just wanted to set it and forget it.

My horns refused to drop for a month of farming
If there were other long farm things, I don’t remember.
This was before they offered another item with a similar model for quests in Cataclsym
I’ve spent way longer shiny hunting in pokemon or trying to hatch a shiny from an egg. Even with the Masuda Method some of them took an oddly long time.
Currently have 11 toons farming for the Blazed Drake in DS. Got Lifebinder when it was current content and have been farming with 6-11 toons ever since then. Brutal with no skips

A year straight of 10 alts running for Ashes of Alar I suppose. Finally did get it.
I don’t enjoy mount farming that much. Didn’t do it again.

Just went and looked.
My Mage has 120 kills on Onyxia. That Mage was created in Cata, and I’m pretty sure i stopped after getting the mount. So that would make it my longest rare drop farm, the others are all around the 50-60 mark for my Mage.
But in terms of effort, back in MoP I soloed the Bone White Primal Raptor as a Horde Mage on a 80% Alliance PVP realm (Outland - EU, 100% Alliance these days). Needed 9999 bones, I grinded the medium sized dinos that dropped like 7 bones per kill, which would sometimes be snipped by Alliance.
These days it sells for like 15k on the AH too… which hurts, but I enjoyed it, weirdly.

Well, I spent an entire year getting 10 Violet Proto-drakes back in Wrath and Cata.

I was doing the sha of anger mount for a couple years on and off and then I realized even if I got it I’d eventually stop using it for something newer. Just stopped being worth the grind after that.

A year collecting the t3 hunter cryptstalker set, spent under a mill for the entire set which is why it took so long. I saw every piece at least twice. Now I don’t even use it.
Hyacinth Macaw took me just under 60,000 pirate kills back in vanilla to wrath. It was because of this item that I stopped tracking anything else in game as far as my kill rate.
Otherwise maybe the Insane title:
- A little over a month grinding herbs and leveling inscription to make decks for DMF rep.
- Another month to level a rogue and farm lock boxes.
- A couple of weeks to farm the pirate reps.
- And three months of in game time to grind the dire maul rep (not having a mailbox was brutal) but it was removed before I completed it.
I did the Insane title 3 times. I dunno if that counts.

I’ve done it twice and started a third time but said nope about halfway through. It is a lot easier now though.

Invincible…farmed since Cata. Started on this guy. Then moved to alts. On and off averaging about 10 alts. Same for mims head.
heavenly onyx cloud serpent. still dont have it and i gave up. from 2015 to 2019
It’s easier now but it’s still a huge amount of time. I did it once in Wrath when it was new/harder, once in 2013, I think, and once in 2020 in an effort to my current account to 100 exalted reps. I’m at 108 now.
I really was hoping for account wide reps in DF because all of mine are spread across so many characters.
The thought of doing legion fishing reps without a raid group again fills me with dread.

I am not really sure. I spent time trying to get that undead horse from Stratholme. I ended up getting it on my BE Paladin. I was grinding Silvermoon rep and it dropped. I wasn’t even trying for the mount at the time. Just happened.
Other than that, I have not spent much time farming other than that stupid Ashes of Alar. I was going after Icrown mogs for various classes, and I thought, Ok one more run on this new max level fox hunter. Invincible dropped. I laughed I was not even trying to go for it. I just figured one more run before bed. I still need to go in there for mogs.
I forgot about that head mount. I might have to try for that after I get Ashes of Alar. (I am not even going to use Alar)
