I’m a new player in WOTLK and I was wondering what is the best gatherer/crafter combo for a DK. I have searched up what profession is best for DK and the two professions that always come up is Engineering and Jewelcrafting however I don’t believe either profession can work without a gathering profession so what should I go for?.
You prob should do mining/eng if you don’t want to go double crafting.
Engineering/Herbalism if you’re Blood (for the added lulz of Lifeblood)
If you have to choose between engineering and jewelcrafting, I’d go for engineering, and mining for the mats ofc. Engineering has BiS gear modifications, bombs, and so many utility items that it’s honestly hard to play without it after you’ve been exposed lol.
JC is BiS for the first two tiers of wrath but once epic gems come out in ToGC the margin becomes lower and I believe blacksmithing wins out because of some new recipes or something? JC has some nice items if you’re a fresh 80 and the trinkets are BiS until Ulduar but they won’t matter next patch if you’re raiding. Being able to cut your own gems is a huge bonus IMO as well but it’s no problem to get gems cut by other players or buy them already cut on the AH.
Ultimately the best move is to work towards having a separate character who mines, and then put two crafting progressions on your main. Obviously though that takes time. My hunter was my main until I finally leveled a DK with eng/mining and then it still took me quite some time until I could afford to drop mining and level JC. Super worth it though!

Sockets for your wrists and gloves with 2x big gems is very solid.
If you want to be one of the “cool kids” and min/max, then probably JC and Eng.
All depends on what you want to accomplish.
Lifeblood is literally a heal from Azeroth.

You will need a level 55 for a dk that will be a gathering profession. Engineering is one but for the second maybe enchanting as you can get some shards for selling.
Mining is the gathering profession for engineering, or you could just buy stuff on the auction house. Engi is the best profession by a mile though, so definitely that one.
For tanking Eng/JC
For DPS Eng/JC
BS+JC and have an alt who is level 80 who has max mining to get your mats.
