What is allowed for advertising, linking, etc?

I understand that generally speaking, advertisement should be kept to the Trade(Services) channel. I’m trying to get a grasp on what will be allowed from Blizzard and what will not. For instance - Advertising in the LFG to sell carries, obviously not allowed.

What about posting a link to your Twitch/Youtube page in the description of the group? Would that constitute advertisement even though its not required?

What about posting a link to your Discord page - Is this considered advertising Discord? What if your Discord contains links to your Twitch page?

I’m trying to understand where the line is that Blizzard does not want us to cross. Would it be OK to just post my Twitch in the description of the group, and then run groups like normal? At the beginning or end of the run, is it OK to post a message saying that I am currently streaming? Or would both of these things just be considered an abuse because of advertisement and could be punished?

Better to avoid all links in anything but private tells to someone requesting the info or group chat once a group is established, Jartha.

Yes, that will likely be perceived as self-advertisements which not only will generate reports, but are frowned upon.

Bad actors also often use discord to take communication out of game - so to many, they are automatically sus - especially around runs.

Most guilds would require a discord for communication these days, and Blizzard has no control on other platforms outside of their own.

I am honestly not too sure what constitutes to in-game adversitisments except for that Gold Sellers and Boost for RMT is against the EULA and should be reported. To be safe though, I think it is best not to include your YouTube channel links in public channels.

EDIT: The Panda bet me too it.

Don’t do that. Advertising any third party link can be seen as self promotion. Streamers in particular tend to get penalized for trying to list their stream in the group finder to promote it.

Once you form a group, if you need to give out a discord for coordination, that is fine to do in raid chat. Self promotion should be avoided at all times. If Blizz wants to promote someone’s social media they will do it through their launcher and media. Otherwise, they don’t want their platforms used for advertising.

Thanks - This was exactly the kind of information I wanted to confirm!

I can confirm that the specific rules regarding selling runs, being part of the run, etc I would not have an issue with. My only remaining question is regarding what might be considered “Helpful”. For instance, community runs helping people get AOTC, free carries/boosts (with no strings/follows attached). Seems like even the people attempting to help the community would be punished. I was looking to do low-mid level key runs with people who are learning to do keys to help build up the M+ community and get people interested. One of the biggest complaints I have seen every season is how hard it is to get into key groups at any level, especially later in the season. Seems rough that I might help out a number of people, and if I mention that I am streaming that it might instantly be considered advertising (even if I don’t mention the channel or link/etc).

Feels like this could be improved, however as someone who also sees daily “WTS” groups posted for real money, I understand the severity that may be required to deal with it.

Thank you again for your responses.
