What if... Dracthyr could adopt the "True Form" of an actual Dragon?

I’m more surprised that they aren’t doing this OP. Seems like an easy win with a dragon race having a literal dragon flight form.

This is sth I have wanted in day one when they announce the new race. Lore wise, I am really not impressed with some bio-engineered half-dragon…

I want a true dragon race, and giving Dracthyr is the way to go!!!

Plus, make them bulkier…They are way too skinny now.

Likewise. But that being said, that is what we got. I would much rather prefer they stick to a singular vision than compromise and undercut themselves.

I dunno, dragons of all kinds seem quite comfortable changing their appearance. It doesn’t seem like there would be anything preventing one from deciding “actually, I’m going to take on the form of a dragon”.

I would honestly just be SO much more excited about having that option. The current restrictions just make zero sense to me.

The Dracthyr, as they currently are, are the worst of both worlds; they are a humanoid race literally pulled out of thin air, and yet are restricted from wearing armor. If you can’t commit to them being humanoid, then at least give us a cool Dragon form option to really justify the lack of armor.

Dragons, sure. But Dracthyr aren’t technical dragons. They’re dragonkin. Do we see drakonids, dragonspawn, or dragonmen turning into full dragons?

I’ll admit, it’s an area of the lore I’m not super well versed. We were told a few months ago that the Dracthyr were Dragons, not “dragonkin”. But I don’t even know what “dragonkin” even means, or how it really differentiates from proper dragons. I assume that “dragonkin” are… experiments to imbue non-dragon races with draconic qualities?

But if they maintain the ability to use a visage, then it seems to me that their forms aren’t terribly limited to begin with. But again, that’s based on admittedly pretty limited knowledge.

I would think, as long as you’re scaled down roughly to the size of a Druid bear-form or something, it would still make for a pretty suitable form for them. The updated standard Dragon model seems to have a TON of great animations, anyways.

Also, like so many other things, the new class-callout from Nefarion to Evokers seem to further confirm Dracthyr as “dragons”, in one capacity or another, actually transforming them into whelps!

Which, to be honest, would actually be kind of cool as an option as well (namely since in M+ runs, the smaller form might alleviate some camera issues). But again, having a sort of proper Dragon-form, albeit smaller as player-sized (again, maybe comparable to Druids’ Bear form), I just think would TOTALLY sell them as a “playable dragon”.

To me, THAT would be the best of both worlds. Visage for showing off transmogs and whatnot, Dragon form for actual combat as dragon-based abilities.

Honestly, I would still just be so, so hyped if they had an optional “dragon” form of some kind to use. Gameplay-wise, they sound like exactly the kind of healer I would actually enjoy playing for once, I love the LOOK of all their spells and all, and the idea of “playing as a dragon” just sounds impossibly cool! But I’m just… not feeling the core Dracthyr appearance. Maybe if we could slap on real armor. I’d probably be more inclined to use a Visage, if there were ANY other options.

But given an actual dragon form of some kind? Hell, even if it was just the Whelp options from BWL’s class-callout now, that would make me WAY more excited about the idea.

I’d take this over the garbage blood elf human visage forms…

I really, REALLY wish Blizzard would give this some consideration. Like I said, the idea of a “playable dragon” is honestly just SO exciting, I can’t help but see the standard Dracthyr form as a disappointing alternative, personally. To me, they don’t really have that “Warcraft-y” look, and while I think they could certainly continue to be improved, I just feel like having a proper “Dragon” form would just be completely unbeatable.

Like I said, make it purely optional, and switch to Visage for any actions that aren’t already animated (including riding mounts, etc).

Well… it’s highly unlikely, but bumping because I still think the idea would be so, so awesome. Rocking a truly draconic appearance would just be so rad, and really make it feel like a unique EXPERIENCE, not just “playing a scalie human-ish character”.

Also worth mentioning I suppose, but I would also be very excited for having this new “Dracthyr” built off the Worgen rig as a possible option:

Throw on some wings, and that would be pretty awesome as well.

Bounces in circles chasing dragon tail since worgen don’t have any I huh… I mean, yes, I would totally make a respectable dragon and not at all act like an oversized reptilian puppy.

Honestly, I feel like this looks EXACTLY like what I would hope for a “playable Dragon” class/race. Again, it’s definitely too large on this particular NPC, but I think if you scaled the size down to something comparable to a Druid’s bear-form or something, this would honestly look f***ing AWESOME!!!

I was originally hoping their form would be a dragon, so this would be awesome if it was included. I am not big on half-dragon/lizard-man races. Although, I am glad they are in the game for those who have been waiting for such a race.

Giving us the option to be a straight up dragon would be awesome, I wouldnt even care if they modeled armor onto them or anything.

You know… what if an actual Dragon-form was their reward for completing the Mage Tower?

Even if all you could choose was your skin color and horns, I would honestly be so, so stoked for that.

Seriously though: these would look INCREDIBLE, especially for a Dragon-themed expansion:

I mean, you could even go skinnier, more of a “awkward teenager-size dragon”. But I definitely would love that, over being a weird semi-dragon lizard-person.
