Now obviously, you couldn’t have them as ENORMOUS as most NPC’s are. But when you look at just how well-animated proper Dragons appear to be in Dragonflight, in my mind it really begs the questions “what if THESE guys were actually playable?”
Is you scaled them down, there maybe sitting like that they’re closer to Human-height (probably not much bigger than a bear-form Druid), I feel like they would still work pretty well. And of course, you could simply revert to your Visage form for all your non-combat animations and what have you.
The Evokers have some INCREDIBLE visuals for all their abilities, but imagine how awesome it could be using all those iconic dragon abilities as an actual dragon? Even if you’re still “small” (player-sized) by Dragon standards.
Just as dragons are able to use their innate magical abilities to take on the Visage of a mortal race, perhaps the same could apply for those who wish to further embrace their draconic heritage, take on the form of a full-fledged dragon?
I dunno; I just feel like that’s something that would just be completely badass. Even if you’re way more limited on customization options, I feel like that would just lend itself to a much more “complete” feeling for what it supposed to be a “playable dragon” race/class hybrid. No hate intended on the Dracthyr, but having an actual dragon-form, and switching to a Visage for all the non-combat stuff, just sounds like the perfect vision of what a “playable dragon” could be.
Honestly, with all the work clearly put into these models, it’s honestly kind of surprising they didn’t opt for dragons from the start. The Dracthyr seem kind of unnecessary as compared to these guys.
All the same, it would honestly be crazy awesome if they could somehow be presented as an optional form. Like I said, just revert to your Visage form for anything that isn’t normally animated (in fact, just treat them the same as you would Druids, including how they’re handled in cutscenes), but otherwise I would honestly LOSE MY MIND if I could play as a legit dragon.
I feel like that would honestly be the sickest thing in the entire game, if it were somehow still possible to implement. I would have absolutely zero issues with the Dracthyr “not displaying armor” and such, if I could take on the form of a legit dragon!
Honestly, just the thought of roaming around the old world again, AS a freaking dragon… that just seems like it would be SO damn cool…
I agree with this would be awsome also and World of Warcraft would be the first MMO to ever do somthing like this if they did mange to pull this off I myself was hoping this would happen all the back in cata so I am really hoping they will really consider this but I would understand if not cause the scaling looks super diffacult but it would be a huge achviment if they did like I said other mmos you can have dragon pet, mount, combat pets,…but never has any dev let you play as a dragon itself
My thinking, as well. I mean, I’m sure there is SOME game that lets you play as a dragon (besides Spyro), but nothing really comes to mind.
It just seems like it would be such a cool addition. Like I said, even if you’re just a relatively “little guy” by dragon standards, with as mobile as they seem to be in combat (particularly as healers), that would be an awesome form to witness casting all your spells.
I actually saw a suggestion on YouTube that they add a full dragon form as a travel-only option, like flight form for druids. So visage out of combat, dracthyr in combat, dragon for flying and dragonriding. I think that would be rad.
I mean… we’ve seen Whelps that are roughly the size of a Gnome (or even smaller). We haven’t really been exposed to much in that in-between stage; and obviously, being a video-game, Blizzard could make them whatever size is adequate for gameplay.
Like I said, if you have them roughly comparable to Druid-forms in size, I think you could totally make it work. I mean if you took something like this, added wings, and maybe its head roughly the height of a Dwarf, I would THINK you would have something that looks and feels like a dragon, without being TOO massive:
I do actually wonder if such an option could be possible or not? Obviously unlikely, but simply possible?
Like I said, I feel like it would honestly be INCREDIBLY cool to be able to rock a truly dragon-like appearance as your “True form”. In fact, I’d be much more accepting of using the Visage form for basically all non-combat interactions (just like a Druid form), if IN combat I was able to look like a real dragon!!!
Seriously, that would legit make this the coolest thing in the entire game, imo.
As much as I’d love to play as a “real” dragon in WoW, I think Dracthyr are pretty awesome all things considered. Yeah, we will have a lot of goofy dragons running around, but I think we’ll also have a lot of pretty cool dragons too. So I don’t think a full-dragon option is needed.
Not to toot my own horn, but I think this guy looks pretty great as is. That said, I would absolutely put my vote in for a glyph that transforms Dracthyr into a full-fledged dragon briefly during Dragonrage (their big dmg CD for Devastation). Similar to Metamorphosis for Demon Hunters.
It’s too late for this. Dracthyr exist as a compromise because they couldn’t make this idea work in the first place. It voids Dracthyr as a concept to renege.
Eh, I dunno… Dracthyr feel like they didn’t even commit to the bit of being “hybrids”. They’re humanoid, but can’t wear armor, but look weird running around naked, so they gave them armor that can only be changed at a barbershop, and can’t actually transmog anything…?
Not to hate on the Dracthyr – I think their neck and head are still a bit small, but fine overall – but given the restrictions… I dunno, it seems like those restrictions would make more sense if you were becoming an actual dragon, even “small” player-sized.
I still wonder if the idea could potentially work. Especially in running Mythic+ keys, I also quite like the idea of a character that maybe sides a little lower to the ground anyways (my new main is a Highmountain Tauren, and oh lawd do I hate small hallways now).
