It used to be a really cool place. I could count on hearing and seeing creative, funny, friendly, goofy folks all the time. Now, it seems that all general chats are dominated by bullies, internet tough guys, and just general a-holes. And the general helpfulness level seems to have suffered as well. Am I just catching things at the wrong time, or has the server really changed as drastically as it seems to have?

I’m no psychologist so I can only guess a few reasons. Shadowlands is extremely unpopular and many people have left, as a result:
- There are less people around to dilute the jerks that usually prowl internet places.
- Folk are cranky that their game is in a bad state and taking it out on others.
- With populations so low trolls are flocking to RP servers because they’re the last bastions of people with any community left to terrorize.
- COVID and quarantine has people on edge. Political climate being explosive too might also contribute to people being aggressive.
Personally I just stay out of general and trade chat channels outside of occasionally saying something funny when the opportunity really presents itself. You’re better off finding people to hang out with near the RP hubs, but please try not to talk OOC too close to where people are RPing. I prefer near the gate to Valley of Honor, or just whispering, though people can be defensive about receiving unsolicited whisper conversations from strangers (too many weirdos trying to get ERP in my experience).

It’s…kinda in a bad place all around right now.
Well, we were cruising along good until some dickhead killed Mr. Bigglesworth. That was the juncture at which the server just officially started to unravel like a cheap Christmas sweater.

I’ve never been in a server where the public chat was being normal, personally
But really all around WoW is in a bad spot so I think this problem you see is happening everywhere. Med/low pop servers are basically dead and people on high pop ones don’t know what to do with themselves or are just messing around.
I’m new to this server and since I’ve learned elsewhere to ignore general and trade, I went right to the discords advertised here on the server forum. Have found lots of chill people and places to hang out at this way!

To be entirely fair this is the average response. I honestly couldn’t tell you the last time I lounged around in a city/township any longer than it took to turn in a Emissary daily.

A good chunk of OOC chit-chat and other stuff has also moved to Discord, where players can moderate their own communities. Here’s one of my favorites for keeping track of and organizing RP events.

Those with nothing worth saying stay quiet. Those who don’t know how to stay quiet are the loudest. Wouldn’t take the public rabble as the state of the server. Look for the diamonds in the rough, they are there!

My biggest gripe is the clowns who sit there in VoH and drop toys, duel, and just flood /say with OOC chatter

Yeah it was really interesting to me how many PvPers happened to hang out right next to the Wyvern so everyone could hear them talk about their 2100s rating in /say and how much they hated their moms and stuff. Granted I only tried to go three times, but it’s weird that it happened all three times.
