How did we go from these:
To this:
The tone of the game is just gone.
Edit:
Times change
They sure do, but it shows that change isn’t always good.
whatever happened to sunchips and chewy chips ahoy cookies.
it’s happening to wow.
they still sell on the name only but the product is merely a shadow of what it once was.
to expensive to hire a good story teller.
greedy investors, unfettered capitalism…when you HAVE TO pay them before taking care of the paying customers you get what we have now
People really catastrophize things like differences in taste. There are all kinds of games whose aesthetic isn’t my thing, but I don’t post on their forums. I choose and move on. I don’t post on the Diablo IV forums that their entire game feels like being in a damp basement with no electricity and a dead mouse somewhere. I just don’t play Diablo IV.
I was eating eggs on rice once, and one of my roommates spent ten minutes talking about how eating eggs on rice was disgusting and they couldn’t understand how I could eat that. As I finished eating, I realized that they weren’t even talking about what they liked and didn’t like. They were just trying to ruin my enjoyment.
You’re trying to make your personal tastes some kind of universal thing, and it isn’t. It’s just your feelings. Don’t make it a thesis.

This is a public forum to express feelings and opinions. You are the one making it a thesis.
Give Metzen a chance. I think the tone will see a shift in the upcoming expansion, and let’s not be too critical of the goblins.
Undermine is a long-desired zone, and the Goblins have a long-established role of providing some level of comic relief going all the way back to Vanilla.
Youre comparing build up to payoff
We are still in p1 of world soul. Ground work being laid. Course its not gonna match a climax patch
You’ll watch a bunch of businessfolk Goblins be dramatically emotional during a business meeting and you’ll like it!
Never mind the profit margin of showing emotion.
Youre comparing build up to payoff
BT and Tomb were not climax patches.
Yeah, like that moment when Gallywix had his goon blatantly murder someone in a filled room, Joker style?
That sounds like a silly and not serious time.
(Bit of an edit, I would put in the YouTube clip of the Batman (1989) clip I’m thinking of when I seen this cutscene but it is pretty graphic and I don’t think would fly with the forum ToS.)
In all fairness that intro was great. Dude atomized someone in his office, ON SCREEN. That’s the most terrifying death we’ve had since… Variann and Legion? I mean besides maybe Fyrakk burning a man alive, but I think the camera cuts for that.
I would argue showdown with illidan who was meant to be the big bad of tbc and is the focus of tbc opening cinematic is.
KJ is a major lore villain since wc3 with build up and a previous raid boss. Also tomb was from WC 2 and ended the legion invasion with the big reveal of argus. Feels like a bigger payoff patch
Gallywix isnt the same lvl
When people bring up the “storytelling” from ages ago and they bring receipts to back up their claims, the only thing they really end up proving is how poorly much of the story has aged lmao
Nothing the story is still there. Just people complaining about anything new like they always do. Go look at the comments for each of those. Someone will say “this is when wow stopped being wow”
Sometimes you click with the new charecters and stories sometimes you dont. All person dependent. Like me personally i didnt care for wotlk story as it was kinda meh but i loved shadowlands story.
xalatath can capture Kadghar with a sweep of her hand and destroy Dalaran with the snap of a finger, but she needs the help of a hapless, greedy goblin to actually destroy the earth.
I guess I am waiting for the ultimate shark jump when deathwing does a complete face turn and blasts out of the hole that I suppose gallywix is digging for her and he defeats xalatath in some sort of godzilla-like heroic moment.
of course, Lady Sylvanas will be riding atop Deathwing.
there must always be a Deathwing…
They’ve been throwing darts at a board, story wise, since Arthas died. They’ve had a couple bulls-eyes, like MoP, Legion and DF (this is purely my opinion) since Wrath. But they sure have had some swing and a misses too. TWW is probably in my bottom 3-4 expansions honestly. Right there with WoD, Shadowlands and Cata.
Undermine is vastly more fun than edgy story telling.
