I took a break around 9.1 and came back almost a month ago now, something that really caught my attention is that Silvermoon City is completely empty now at all times of the day when it used to always have Sin’dorei and Shal’dorei RPers walking around. Is Wyrmrest more guild RP focused nowadays?
oh it is definitely not empty by any means, but you probably don’t want to stumble upon them or you are going to have a lot of “oh crap, sorry” moments
if you get my drift
Hah yeah I get what you mean, I may or may not have stumbled on two individuals by accident while running around the city.
But yeah, the walk up folk seem to have just moved to the Valley of Honor with everyone else I suppose. I don’t really RP anymore nowadays, but I enjoyed how alive it made SMC feel.
RP on Wyrmrest Accord is partially guild-based at the moment, but there’s also quite a lot to be found in the way of public events and open campaigns. So, while random walk-up can be tricky to find outside of a few specific places and timeframes, there’s certainly RP going around that doesn’t require you to be in a guild.
For Silvermoon City in particular, you just missed an event that was held a couple Sundays ago. If you’re free and interested tomorrow evening, however, another event is being held in the garden area outside the Shepherd’s Gate. You can find a post about it here.
There’s been a significant population shift WRA wide I feel like post Blizz Lawsuit & with Shadowlands being a hard expansion to really do Azeroth side RP around. A lot of the folks I used to play with have either lapsed subs or are playing FFXIV.
Event RP seems to be where it’s at these days!
what a shame
it can’t really be… there must be something we can do
it was a good server
-audible lip smack-
what a rotten way to die
There was a fun event last night, with citizens and friends of Silvermoon coming together to watch the fireworks!
Check out a few screenshots here.
“Sorry for what? Sunstrider told us not to be ashamed of our mana pool’s, since they’re such good size and all.”
Yeah many guild leaders decidedly quit without any opportunity for people to take up the mantle and continue guilds, and subsequent members followed suit when the lawsuits last year came to light.
Of course, many of those people resubbed. But they don’t seem to hang around SMC any time I visit, which is usually in the evening past prime hours so my experience is definitely an outlier. But I have noticed it has become a lot like MG’s Horde where the walk-up is sequestered to Orgrimmar with guilds still being quite active.
Remember! The lack of AFKers in SMC and walk-up doesn’t mean there’s no one there. It is just not readily available, and one just has to either make their own fun or peep the forums/ask Trade.
Same thing that happened to every RPer.
Shadowlands.
Except, among others, the over 100 amazing people that have been enjoying Year 35 and YOTS for the last 18 months. You are ALL amazing and the last year and a half has been my favorite RP period ever!
I just happen to frequent the Bazaar, not the RE or MR
i’d be down for rp in silvermoon, i just never seen anyone there
This is where I would put my obligatoty “come to Duskwood instead” joke but I’m tired so I’m phoning this one in.
We move our guild’s RP to Dalaran and the Broken Isles, mainly Meredil in Suramar. We spend most of our time between those places though we don’t get as much walk up RP out in the boonies.
Blood elves should definitely come to Duskwood and just walk around for a while with their necks exposed like we all do all the time down there.
This is a big one. The way RP hubs work is that people walk around looking for RP. If they see no one is there, they leave. I see it happen in the Wyvern’s Tail all the time. It’s empty save for one or two people and for an hour different people RP walk inside then do the Abe Simpson walk back out.
A lot of people, simply speaking, feel silly standing around in character alone.
But once it achieves a certain critical mass of retained people, others feel more comfortable walking inside and staying while they look for an interaction. Many, many times I can tell there’s at least ten people eyeing up the tavern but don’t know each other are around because they all play walk up tag. So the tavern appears empty. Then I get in a conversation with a few people and suddenly it’s easier to break the ice and there’s 10+ people in the tavern at 2 am.
I’d bet my butt Silvermoon is like that too. I check it out myself every once in a while. It’s worse than Valley of Honor too, since it’s bigger and harder to immediately see everyone who’s in character there.
Any time you see people doing laps around the city, they’re looking for an RP atmosphere to settle into. They keep missing each other because they’re all doing laps at the same pace and in the same direction though. Just sit down for a few minutes and watch them run, you’ll see several people pass you by when you do.
The hard yet best thing to do is just get RP into areas. That means, unless you have friends to organize with, you need to be the brave one and flag someone down. Have your character almost get run over by someone’s mount or something lol. But once you do, others might feel better about idling there for RP.
Consistency is the key. You have to keep breaking the ice over multiple days. If people find a crowd in Silvermoon once, it’s an anomaly. If they keep finding it, they’ll start to know it’s a place they can plop themselves down and find RP in again. And once enough people believe that, it becomes self sustaining again.
Thomas did that with Duskwood, now its become a nightly hub for a lot of Allyside rpers. But he took a chance and kept consistantly patrolling the area. Even when he felt it wasn’t worth it, I’ll bet. So its doable, but it takes effort.
I know a good few people in Blackrose have been happy to see SMC getting a bit of a resurgence. I’m usually just seen in trade spamming for recruits and scheduled events, but maybe when I’m comfortable with where we are at as a guild, I’ll relax a bit more and join in the random walk ups!
Thomas Bates is a self-made legend.
