What happened to the gritty dark fantasy we once had?

I keep waiting for xpac that’s going to show us Legion (demons)were here to help us from insert new bad race(for now).

Basically, it’s a way to bypass the 10 character limit in order to post.

You’ll see it at the bottom of your chat box.

When was WoW ever a “gritty dark fantasy?” The premise of the original Warcraft games had elements of that (in so far as it was based largely on Warhammer and D&D lore) but WoW certainly never tapped into that, partially because they wanted to appeal to as large an audience as possible and partly to get a lower ESRB rating.

FF9 is easily in my top three FF’s. 6 was okay, but I didn’t beat it. I think it got as far as beating the Ghost Train. I can’t see how people liked 8, I never got past the second disk because I just didn’t like any of the characters. 7 - I look back on and realize the only reason I liked it back then is because it was one of the two games that got me into the franchise; the other being Tactics. Looking back at 7 now… I don’t care for most of the characters, with Yuffie and Red XIII being the only ones I actually like.

Yeah, definitely agree getting through ARR is the hardest part of the MSQ. I heard they revamped it by cutting out the fat, so to speak, but I haven’t tried replaying it since the changes. Maybe I’ll create a new character just to see it.

Yeah, ARR is very slow. But, I think it’s a necessary slow-burn to set the foundation of future expansions. While going through it, ARR does feel like a slog but once one gets into Heavensward and onward, those foundations laid by ARR start to make sense and can be appreciated.

Yes! FFT is my absolute favorite in the franchise. I’m so disappointed that they haven’t made another one since Advanced 2. I know FF12 delved back into Ivalice, but I didn’t care for that more action-y combat system.

Does the name Xal’atath ring a bell?

She definitely has an agenda.

yeah, but what an absurd premise. What are they supposed to do, just randomly destroy things with no reason or purpose?

People like op always complain that the story isn’t complex or good enough or some such…but then turn around and say things like “I sure wish the evil badguy had no real reason to be bad but instead just did random stuff to look cool, i don’t need a complex story just make things blow up”

Who am I to make that choice? I’m just a Down Comforter.

Yeah, but she doesn’t have any sort of “trying to save us” goal. Her goal is to unleash even bigger evils upon us.

Yes to sell feet pics apparently.

I dunno. People seemed to like Ledger’s Joker.

Not saying that WoW is on his level, but just that people can enjoy characters without deeper meaning beyond wanton destruction.

The real truth.

You mean something like this?

Orks are in fact the best army, because they have the most dakka!!!

These have insane depth of story, you just didn’t look for it. All souls games do as do other ICO titles.

Edit: not an attack, just interesting to hear your take on it as such.

Lets hypothetically say Heavensward is the greatest story every told.

Doing the story quests STILL wouldnt be fun because its constantly interupting gameplay flow. And it forces questing to be linear.

Older brother plays orks. I hate to love Da Boyz.
