I couldn’t find a hardware sub-forum that wasn’t for troubleshooting so I’ll just leave this here.
What happened to graphics card prices???
About 7-8 years ago when I built my current system with a 1080Ti (the best GPU at the time), it cost me around $1300 (AUD). Fast forward to today and the equivalent GPU (the 5090 because apparently the 5080 is weaker than the 4080 super), is priced at around $4000 - $6000 (AUD).
…
Edit: Eventually found the relevant forum. Y’all false flaggers can rest easy now that justice has been served. Well done, folks.
Moderation Note: It isn’t a false flag if it is accurate. Flagging for being in the wrong forum would be a valid flag so that we could possibly move if it you do not.
Additionally, your post and post title had an inappropriate acronym in it, which may have resulted in a suspension. Please be mindful of that going forward.
adam jensen happened. have fun with your ai ridden nvidia dominated graphics card high priced market of “LOL NO GPUS FOR THE POORS” while jensen dances around onstage with his gold colored jacket. NO REALLY thats what he did last nvidia convention.
Cryptocurrencies and then LLM based AI happen. Nvidia found other uses for their cards.
Why the prices went up? Don’t really know. Maybe Nvidia and AMD started making more expensive GPUs because crypto and AI people will buy them. So that’s all that got created.
actually…amd dropped out of the high end gpu market late last year. its all nvidia now. enjoy your 2k+ 90 series cards. ITS THE FUTURE WITH JENSEN AT THE HELM. jensen is the definition of a hasnt had to work for a thing in his life.
It’s no different than other markets. Supply and demand and yes inflation too.
In large part thanks to Crypto demand for a relative few cards produced into supply and the suppliers knowing they get to set the price into obscene levels and people will pay it. They don’t care about you and your needs…just who is gonna give them the money.
They can charge whatever they want if you’re willing to pay the price. They simply have a high price because they can. Nvidia high end GPU were supposed to be around 800, but I guess they abandoned that affordable GPU stuff in favor of overpricing their product.
What game(s) are you playing or planning to play that need a 5090?
Most people don’t ever use their GPUs or CPUs to their full potential, but they “need” the enthusiast PC parts for some reason.
Keeping up with the Joneses, I guess… pay for it $$.
