I’d disagree that professions are significantly better, if anything their so much worse to actually train and level up.
I hate the “Mini-game” for it as well, both for gathering and crafting.
Though Player housing -would- be nice.
I’d only be worried it’d kill open world RP.

The main difference between WoW and FFXIV is the audience it tends to attract. The problem is that a lot of people who have played WoW and only WoW tend to not want to attempt at trying something new and different. If it doesn’t correlate with what they have played in the previous expansions in some fashion they will not give a 2nd blink to a new game. But unfortunately it’s in that same group where a lot of people find more discontent when other fellow gamers do not like how the current expansion has to offer.
WoW is just a straight forward MMO with very little of story value being gained per expansion. It’s there to cater to those that just want the short end version of what’s going on and have quick excess to action and move onto the next big thing. Gameplay has to be quick even if it means over pruning a lot of the classes during the process. RNG is placed to keep the player occupied further along with achievements and minimal engaging features per expansion.
Final Fantasy XIV caters more to the player that wants to experience a more in depth story telling along with more in depth of class progression on learning on select jobs that the game has to offer. You don’t necessarily have to make ‘x’ amount of alts to play all the jobs the game has to offer instead you can have 1 character learn them all if you so desired. FFXIV does not offer PvP in the form of open world content however it does offer in the form similar to Battlegrounds. RNG on gear itself is not as harsh and redundant as it is in WoW. Instead for endgame content you farm a currency called tomestones of which can be traded for gear for that current patch. Even though you can not fly in the ARR zones you can progress flying in HW, SB, and the newest expansion ShB by collecting Aether currents on a given zone; no waiting over a year or more just to work on a reputation grind for pathfinder part 2.
Play what you want to play even if it means getting out of your comfort zone and trying new things.

Healers in 14 are a failure. Especially in Shadowbringers. Lots of pruning and balance is way off which is honestly unacceptable when there are only 3 options. There is a reason queues for tanks aren’t much shorter than dps. No one wants to heal.

And as someone who only really enjoys healing… probably soured my view of FF14 greatly.

Still playing through FF - but so far what I find most glaring is just an overall lack of polish. The loading screens, the many many walls, t-mog, etc.
FF has the ability to write a story better, however. Hands down.
Pros and Cons aside, however, I think at the end of the day it’s the aesthetic. You either like cutesy infantilism or you don’t. WoW has some of that (see idle animations and slash emotes, particularly for female characters), but it isn’t saturated throughout all design.
FF14 has the luxury of not having to write a story that caters to two different sides.
WoW’s weakest moments are whenever they try to keep the faction conflict going without either side losing.

No. As someone who played through Heavensward and is now moving through Shadowbringers story, writing a story is something WoW could learn from FFXIV.

I don’t like “playing from behind” as a healer. Outside of a few cooldowns (like the big shield SCH gets) you have to wait until after the damage comes out and drops everyone to like 15% or whatever before you can heal. Even then it takes maybe 2 GCDs to top everyone up. Healthbars are just rubberbands every 30 seconds so for the other 25 you might as well do damage.
Shadowbringers removed most damage tools from healers. SCH lost like all its dots. Fight design hasn’t really though outside of the tank taking a bit more damage it seems. Which as I said earlier…doesn’t matter. A tank being at 20% or 40% health doesn’t matter when you will top them in 2 globals either way. You just now have even LESS to do during downtime since your variety in damage spells got neutered.
Also, macros in FFXIV are so unbelieveably archaic that healing is a chore in itself. I suppose damage is so far between because they literally expect you to go through your raidframes one by one and cast your heals instead of using mouseovers.

Stormbloods story was a massive step down from heavensward. ARR also had an even more lackluster story with it being unbelieveably cliche. This isn’t even accounting for the fact you HAVE to finish MSQ to start the next expansion. Which means hours of doing nothing to progress your character at “max” level of an expansion.
I don’t know why so many people can’t understand the comment. I’m not talking about the content of the story, I’m talking about how they tell the story. So FFXIV uses lots of dialogue you have to read through, while WoW uses more action and has your character play through much of it with fewer things that need to be read. It’s much easier to just absorb the story as you play the game as opposed to sitting reading a book on screen to get it.
People in wow even made an addon to let you experience quest giver text as dialogues, so I wouldn’t say one style is totally better but atleast wow give you the option to skip it faster if you don’t care much. FFXIV have a vision in their game of how your should experience the story, same thing as the Main story quest (MSQ) that people keep talking about. For sure it takes a lot of time, but it makes it so you get to know the story while wow encourage skipping it because all the focus of WoW is on endgame.
Don’t play any other MMO. They suck.
WoW is and always will be more popular.
Yeah, WoW has the better transmog system, but FF14 by far has the better-looking gear. WoW models are mostly texture work with occasional flair in the belts, boots, and shoulders. Meanwhile, gear FF14 feels like an actual outfit instead of cheap spandex cosplay; there’s a lot of ornamentation affected by gravity, movement, and wind, and leather has its own texture that responds to lighting.

I do agree about the better looking gear. It’s nice having 3d models for everything–they don’t hold back. I do think the style gets very repetitive, but I haven’t seen what Shadowbringers offers.
The issue for me with the FFXIV glamour isn’t that it looks bad–it looks amazing. It’s how easy it is to obtain. As a level 20, I was wearing armor that looks like it should be from endgame content (and some was–a combination of Eureka and Gold Saucer gear) simply because it could be purchased on the AH.
By level 60, I already had sets prepared in advance for my main and the next job I was going to level. Though I understand there are many playing to truly power up, I only see a desire for glamour in FFXIV without solid PvP/WPvP at all. And as the glamour is mostly available on the AH, I can’t find any long term goal, personally. Even the coolest mounts can be purchased in the mog station store (or what I like most–looking at that motorcycle).
Just my thoughts. I wish I understood what others strive for in FFXIV. On a side note, I did love running around and seeing people RPing in different spots.
Also, there are a lot of us who don’t like Asian MMOs. From the art style to the dialog. Asian MMOs are just off putting to me. And this is coming from someone who just found out their Great-Great Grandfather was Japanese.
I mean, all power to you if you’re not fan of the style, but what you’re saying isn’t racist so you don’t need to establish your Asian cred by being an eighth Japanese.

It’s true I just found that out, but adding that was meant as kind of a joke.
I think getting to Fly in FF14 is more enjoyable. It gets you to explore the world and do certain quest that have you explore a bit more the game. It’s fast, easy, and enjoyable.
