What FFXIV Could Learn from WoW

I actually like that part. Cure II feels a lot more satisfying to use than Flash Heal, which only heals ~10% of a tank’s health. That seriously turned me off when I returned to WoW at the end of legion.

This is also how WoW heals used to work. Greater Heal would heal just as much as Cure II does right now in FF. The reason healers were never forced to heal in classic WoW is that 1) Smite and Holy Fire cost a truckload of mana at the time so you would never use it outside of solo, and 2) even if that wasn’t the case, there was a lot more damage to heal and the damage was much less predictible, especially on the tank. Those two facts meant that the toxic “healer DPS” meta that forces healers to heal was utterly nonviable in classic WoW, while it has been present in FF ever since the Coils.

I agree. It has got to be hard to not only make a great story, but make one for 2 different factions that are fighting each other. You want to make each faction feel like the good guys but then why are they fighting each other then? That is a problem I think with that type of Narrative. Not that it can’t be done, but the “opposite factions joining together to defeat a common enemy” has been done so many times now it is making the story predictable.

I’d say one fault with FFXIV’s story tho is Alphinaud. He is a good character, but he has been 16 (or so) since 2013. Like, let the man grow up atleast.

Well FFXIV has better graphics all-around than WoW, but this isn’t always a good thing. My PC is pretty decent (i5 processor, nvidia 1060 graphics card) and it runs pretty hot when I play XIV. Not so much with WoW.

edit: One thing I’ve noticed with things such as bushes or tree leaves is that while they are much more detailed than WoW’s, they also shimmer to much in the lighting, giving away the fact that you’re looking at pixels and not actual foliage.

This is one of the reasons I never got into the world of FF. Everyone looks like they belong on a fashion model run way not in a dungeon fighting for the entire sake of the world. It kinda sucks though because the story in FF is really interesting and it actually matters a lot to the progression of your character to actually pay attention to it.

On the other hand I feel like ESO has the opposite problem. All their characters ESPECIALLY the humans are so same facey and ugly.
The animations are stiff and and feel like they have no weight behind them. Which sucks the fun out of the honestly pretty amazing combat system. The story also is really well made and a lot more open. Also everything is voice acted which is kinda nice.

Edit: To addon to to this I wish blizzard would steal more stuff from ESO than FF tbh the way they handle gearing up is very interesting, with having armor sets that are tied to each aspect of the game. Like having armor sets that you get for doing puzzles and fighting world bosses out in the actual world, having crafted sets that are actually good and make crafting useful, and of course your raiding and dungeoning sets.

I know the WoW community hates when people have avenues towards gear that isn’t Max level raiding but honestly it’d be nice seeing people explore the entirety of Azeroth to get gear or see crafting actually be useful.
