As far as I have read the comments to this thread … some might say people already have access to the open beta or test server or whatever …
10 days ago the new expansion was revealed …
to reveal something means per definition
“make (previously unknown or secret information) known to others.”
That is exactly what we got, we got a name, the first look of some features and that is it.
Where in gods name does all that say that there isn’t more to come?
going by the recent season timeline we still have a year to wait until the Expansion may be released.
And Ion self said that the Expansion is already multiple years in development.
Why can’t some people not be happy about something new?
no there needs to be outrage because a class is actually a race and can’t tank on top of it…
there needs to be outrage that there is no content in the next expansion while it is not clear if what was shown is all of it …
This is what I fear. Mythic Raiders will give the thumbs up. Engagement metrics will look promising. But the game will bleed subs because there’s nothing actually fun to do. When you get bored of the thing you do two or three times a week, you will quit because there is no soul to Dragonflight. It is design by metrics. Simply a different set of metrics than Shadowlands.
I just want hundreds of new things to make in my profession.
Having mini-games that impact quality, or work-orders for the same 10 items isn’t content. It’s aggravation.
Give Blacksmiths a choice to specialize in armor or one handed weapons or two handed weapons.
Give inscriptionists hundreds of new glyphs. For every talent, for every ability. Tons of cosmetic fluff glyphs.
Give alchemists dozens of new potions that make primary stats stronger, and can enable secondary stats like multi target or leech. Give us potions that can transform us into different races and classes or make us ghosts or make us a tree. There’s tons of stuff they can do.
Give engineers tons of doodads and more fireworks and guns and lasers and attachments for armor.
Give leatherworkers tons of new items to make and give them the option of making them in different colors. Bring back patches which can increase armor.
Give tailors TONS of different hats and dresses and shirts and pants and plushies!!! Tons of color variation!
Make jewel crafting less convoluted and make it so that we don’t need to do thousands of dailies for old recipes and gems. Make them purchase-able via gold.
Enchanting needs dozens of more appearances for all weapons. And a larger selection of modifications they can do to weapons and armor.
I could go on forever.
I just hope they expand professions and simply not create a convoluted system that is more of a roadblock than anything.
New =/= good. The better question is why do people insist on jumping on a hype train only to end up getting mad later. Many of the same people praising this expansion will be whining about it later… or worse, simply unsubbing in boredom.
They are going to do what they should have been doing after MoP and add something cool and new to the game that is not toxic or annoying and does not make millions quit after 2 months.
So DF should just have been more of the old stuff?
I actually have not seen a lot of praising going around … we all are reserved about all things going forward, just because SL showed a negative example …
And why exactly does that matter?
Let them Unsub if they are not happy.
Blizzard has to learn if something is wrong.
But as far as I have seen nothing that was said about the new expansion is inherently bad.
When they first brought work orders into the game in the wod garrison, I was like, “I do this at work. They pay me to do work orders. Why are they trying to turn the game into a job, and a tedious clerical one at that?”
The people who knew how to design the game you’re thinking of no longer work there. There have been replaced over the years by managers who agree with the design philosophy you describe. I think Ion was promoted to streamline production to save costs, and has ended up removing everything that he, as a lifelong raid logger, didn’t value and thinks is irrelevant.
Dragonriding
Customizable dragon mounts
Rolling Shadowlands into Chromie Time
Making grey and white gear available for transmog
Talent Trees
Overhauled UI
Overhauled Professions
Renown/rep changes
Re-adding WoD PvP gearing
Cross-faction crap
More account wide crap
More nonsensical race/class combos
That makes a great deal of sense and causes me to worry more.
On my server, I see more people in Korthia than I do in ZM at the times I log on. But if you look at the ZM design, the first few weeks have the Grind for console, grind for rep and maybe the pet/mount thing as well.
So yes, it’s designed to keep people there and it’s totally soul-less. And given what you said, it explains the lousy designs they have and speaks volumes to their cluelessness.
Everything they’ve been doing are hamster wheels because they judge by hamster wheels.
I’m quite concerned then, for DF.
Gee, too bad all their ideas come from the forums.
No wait. They have told us they take no player feedback from the forums or elsewhere.
I know it’s very trendy to trash the playerbase. And you are one of those. But if they get all their ideas from the impenetrable bubble in their office instead of doing the actual marketing research that responsible companies do before sinking hundreds of millions of investors’ dollars into a project that is doomed to failure, they are their own worst enemies.
No, you can’t fix that by mocking disappointed players for not pretending to enjoy every game mechanic that was foisted on them in the name of boosting player engagement.
People were expecting a Legion level content expansion after 2 post launch patches of Shadowlands… but luckily I did not…instead of a double meat footlong subway sandwich we got a 6 inch clean the palate veggie delight
I think Legion spoiled people ~ that don’t realize that Legion had the longest development phase… I have yet to see the zones etc but yes it did feel FOR ME underwhelming but to be fair. Under the circumstances, and seeing the amount of overhauls they’ve done, the new race-class and bigger zones … it’s not like nothing was done or anything small in that regard…
