Basically as the title states, I’m interested in hearing some other players opinions on what makes WoW fun for you and what keeps you playing.
All of these threads and discussions about RDF, people complaining about elitists, gear score requirements from the raiding communites, it really got me thinking. It just comes down to everyone has their own fun. And its no ones right to try to convince the other side how to play.
Im the player that likes dieing multiple times in order to figure things out. I like having to trek across zones to do a dungeon only to get ganked 4 times on my way there. I like having to make a rag-tag team of players to do dunegons from LFG chat because its 2AM and no one is online.
What is fun for me is a potential nightmare for someone else. And in realizing that, I see why something like RDF would be such a good thing for a different player. I hope this thread can get even just a small bit of traction because id like to read about what other players like doing in this game.
This is not a thread for arguments, just general discussion please!
Good topic that I’m interested in seeing responses to as well. For different reasons though.
I was one of the people that have spent the last decade praising WOTLK so I’m pretty ashamed to admit that my overall experience of getting 2 toons to 80 doing some heroics, dailies and/or BGs has been pretty dang boring in all honesty. I pushed through leveling both toons out of excitement and now I’m trying to figure out what it was I liked so much about Wrath.
1: I enjoy soloing low level dungeons for gold, its relaxing and fun to me and at the sametime I make gold to buy my epic flying mount and other things so its win, win.
2: I enjoyed rolling alts over and over, I level them up until level 80 then gear them with heroic gear and then start a new alt and do the same, once my character list in full I start to delete characters well… That is on Private WOTLK server using RDF its what i’ve been doing since the last 5 or so years? Not possible to do in classic retail but details.
3: Do achievements (Not doing them right now though.)
4: Help random people to kill hard elites in lower level zones, I literally sit there waiting to see people arrive and try to solo elites and if they are about to die I taunt the mob and help them kill it.
I also really like dueling, but nobody duels here. When you do find someone to duel they have no concept of dueling etiquette. They will use health potions, free action pots or eating food and think they are doing it right.
Raiding with the bros. I think that’s probably why I’ve started playing more of Wrath Classic than Retail since coming back, which is something I never thought I would say, considering how I felt about Classic and TBC Classic (ie, VERY apathetic and really not liking the community).
While I’ve enjoyed parts of retail in the past decade, I’ve noticed my perspective on raiding has changed a lot over the years. I wound up being in that crowd that focuses a lot on performance and metrics, and it didn’t dawn on me until doing Wrath Classic content that the crowd I’m running with now REALLY doesn’t give a damn.
It’s all content that’s been done before, so there’s no real pressure. Most of the people I’m running with played Wrath originally and we’re all just here for the fun of it anyways. I’m sure I could find a similar crowd in Retail that doesn’t get torn up about parsing, M+ times, server firsts, etc., but I can’t tell you how nice it’s been to log in for a night of Naxx25 and just meme about as we clear the content.
To answer the initial question though, I enjoy wandering in the world and seeing things I missed the first go around. I completed all of howling fjord recently and learned why king ymiron (or whatever) is an end boss.
I finished all of the nexus area and learned who the end dragon is.
Lately been rolling a survival hunter and going out of my way to do quests which are a lot higher level than me just for the challenge.
WotLK is the pinnacle of WoW and I’m savoring it like a fine well aged wine.
