So, You have played a plethora of Blizzard Games. Lets look at the list:
Warcraft 1,2,3, Warcraft III Reforged
Diablo 1,2,3 and 4, Diablo Immortal. Diablo 2 Resurected.
World of Warcraft.
Warcraft Rumble.
Overwatch.
Hearthstone.
Starcraft 1, II.
Blizzard Arcade
Heroes of the Storm.
Now your hoping for a new set of games from Blizzard? And or are Hoping that Blizzard improves the existing Blizzard games significantly? Or even hoping Blizzard surprises you with some brand new innovative games?
So what is it you are expecting from blizzard going forward?
Not really sure what to expect, to be honest. None of their recent releases feels like their old work, which I get. It’s not the same people.
If I had to guess, probably more micro transactions being snuck in over the years, increasingly grindy gameplay, and a more formulaic approach to creating content.
I expect Microsoft to stop coping on 5-7 WoW projects and end the modern game because it really doesn’t bring in any money compared to the resources squandered on it.
They’ll just focus on WoW and Diablo content because it’s their primary cash cows. It will continue being mediocre and DEI heavy and probably underperform because all their talent left a while ago. Doubt there will be any more Starcraft or RTS games, or any new franchises that are worthwhile. Their hiring decisions in other areas show that Microsoft is tone deaf, and they’re also laying off a bunch of people at Blizzard so unless that’s the bureaucrat people, they don’t seem to be planning much.
Thats a huge question mark. The influx of developmental chaos will play a part. it seems the days of expecting kick azz is gone. Now its just anxiety whether or not something isnt cringe. New gaming territory it seems. The answer to your question stands on blizzards shoulders. Death by a thousand cuts, or re-group. its a choice
I never expect Blizzard to innovate; the best games they’ve offered were not innovative. They were a pirate crew of hardcore gamers who played tons of other games, figured out what things they’d change about those games, and took all the time they needed to fix them and polish the bejesus out of them before putting them out.
If they were innovative with anything, it was battle.net.
Can’t do that now. The corporations have taken the whole thing over. You can’t just release it when it’s ready when there are quarterly revenue goals that supersede all else.
SCIII is going to be an FPS most likely. Most of the voice actors have moved on. And Blizzard has shown that they no longer have the capability to make a good RTS game.
SCIII RTS would be awesome. But for the current dev team it is profit before pleasure 100% of the time now.
They will make any new games for the money, NOT for the players.
Eh, really… just more of the same:
Blizzard does something creative, and people hate it.
Blizzard does more of the same, and people hate it.
Blizzard does what people said they wanted, and they hate it.
Blizzard tries something completely new, and people say they hate it.
Blizzard is going to continue making games that range from amazing to mediocre, with a few mobile games here and there. Hopefully fewer Diablo Immortal games, and more of Hearthstone and Rumble games (in terms of their monetization models).
But the only constant that exists in regards to Blizzard… it is far more popular to hate on anything Blizzard related, so folks will do that rather than have a single honest thought that they actually express. Because the reality why Blizzard is as strong of a company is that regardless of whatever people say about them, what players do is purchase, play, and enjoy their games.
I don’t expect another SC RTS, but I just want something, ANYTHING for SC. I don’t care if it’s a Helldivers 2 clone. Hell I’d actually play that.
Honestly, ever since WoD, my expectations have been very low. I’m basically expecting them to do the worst thing possible, so when they do a half decent job (like they did this expansion with Delves), I’m pleasantly surprised
