I come in peace
Obviously this forum has been inundated with wotlk Era requests. Actually wondering what folks do on a stagnant era server with no new content. Say after 8 months are people still playing? What is the end goal…completionism? Exploration? Other?
Not looking to troll as I may leave an alt behind if they chose to offer.

People are still actively playing classic wow even years after tbc launch it was dead than the toxic retail esque mentality of wrath led to a lot of players rerolling on classic sadly now those toxic players have started coming there and ruinning it as well

I was going to do odd leveling challenges at my own pace as I am one of the “weird” people who likes leveling.
Though I prefer Wrath leveling as they added in quite a few quests in the old world in TBC that I prefer to have (like the extra Dustwhallow Marsh quests.). Combine that with the Wrath zones and the talents and it was just a fun experience to slowly work on.

Im not gatekeeping anyone…was a question I’ve wondered reading how adamant people were to keep this expansion live devoid of new content.
Absolutely nothing because Classic Era is over and only HC is alive on it, people who trying to play non-hc Era are those sad lonely people who still try to live in 2004 and only has medium population at peak ( they just cant let go of their game) by just selling boosts and GDKPs because gold inflation is out the wazoo

You play the same content on a server that has been beaten for 2 years prior to it becoming an era server until the population over time becomes 0.

Not much, weekly ICC (with 30% buff so everyone and their dog can do it) and week after week people leave because its boring and them game is full of bots

Basically the same things you do on Retail. Leveling, professions, PvP, farming, dungeons, raids, achievements, etc.
The difference is that those things usually take more time in Classic. Leveling is actually part of the game in older versions. It’s better suited to those who prefer the journey over the destination. It’s also slower due to the lack of many of Retail’s conveniences. There are fewer flight paths in the world, and no toys that allow you to learn them all at the click of a button.

So you’re telling me after ~2 years of Wrath Classic, people suddenly decided to do Levelling, Professions, PvP, Farming, Dungeons, Raids and Achievements when they previously just raidlogged? Man you guys take time to do that stuff.
And obviously this is sarcasm. For your points:
Nobody does anything expect Raiding.
- Levelling is being skipped. RDF and boosts exist
- Professions is being skipped because of bots
- PvP is more dead than dead. I don’t even know how you can post that here without laughing
- Farming is being skipped because of bots
- Dungeons go as far as when you have the gear to do Raids, which hopefully everyone has in about 6 months
- Achievements is probably something you can do outside of raidlogging if you find enough people i guess

full achievement run
many of the harder ones you can no longer obtain after wotlk and they take a while to get
also trying out new classes on both sides
I can only play a few hours a night if I’m lucky so there’s plenty of content to keep busy for years

did you ask the same for the classic vanilla servers yet? or you think running full bis nax geared with thunderfury and world buff isnt telling you anything?

private servers that run WotLK content for years enjoy a healthy community and make enough money to keep running. The release of WotLK for me was not the aspect of progressing all over again but to relive the memories and nostalgia. If WoTLK remained WotLK I wouldnt have a problem with it. I would keep playing
I get that some people cannot understand this stance but thats the same people who play retail and stop playing after a few months cuz “theres nothing new”. Its a video game. I m quite happy with staying in the past and enjoy what it has to offer after all, its not like WotLK has little to offer

Well the stagnant nature means you can just get bis and raid casually. In vanilla era we would just get so much good gear that everyone became supper geared and we would just en-casualify the content.
So I guess in wrath era we would have something similar with the raids being used to get some gear nice and casual with the knowledge it is good forever. Since the hardcore players are looking for harder raids cata does have that so wrath era would be a place to relax with the ability to get shadowmourne and ulda heal mace for everyone. But without the need to farm a bunch of herbs and elemental earth we might just see people do the 2bg pvp dailies, wintergrasp, and collect ulda/naxx achievement runs.
Because the community would be smaller initially until it drops. There might be a pressure to skip the raids for later raids due to the rewards given outpacing last tier.
The pvp will pay for gems and the like and based on what happened in vanilla era starting with low pop and growing. If wrath era servers were confirmed we would see alot more activity as the effort would be directly rewarded.

Oh no! a lull in activity! existential dread and intrusive thoughts increasing, flood of emotions arg my only weakness!!! haha, seriously though, I wonder if any one here has ever gone fishing in real life.

Definitely completionism. In my most ideal situation, I would aim to collect every tier set for every class to include the ZG/AQ/Dungeon sets allowing for certain compromises. Namely, the fact that tier 3 is no longer obtainable in Wrath (I mention it specifically since Wrath era is what I personally am hoping for) and DKs don’t even have tier sets until tier 7. I would probably aim for BIS in both specs for each class as well as maxed “BIS” professions for all of them. All obtainable achievements/titles/mounts/etc. Max out all reputations.
Is it overkill? Absolutely. But as I’ve mentioned elsewhere I have done “perfect” playthroughs of a lot of console RPGs that always included things such as best equipment, maxed stats, maximum number of inventory items, etc. It is an arduous journey to be sure but I derived a lot of enjoyment from not only accomplishing it but also putting together spreadsheets that I used to outline my objectives but also as a means to track my progress. Some people, myself included obviously, have a lot of fun with completing something to the utmost.

I just level alts, mostly.

It’s really frustrating that people (including annoyingly the WoW Devs) can’t seem to imagine anything beyond the endgame gear grind. Haven’t you ever gone back to play an old game to enjoy the story or immerse yourself in a world you loved? Some of us just want to be able to go home from time to time.

you don’t play on the whitemane pvp cluster i see. The pop there is actually pretty good.

Blizzard needs to reload the server every 18 months, this keeps people playing and enjoying progression-style content. Even if they reload and leave the 3.3.5 server alone… Major private servers have been running WotLK content for over 10 years (with better customer service) and haven’t had any issues with player numbers. Cata is essentially retail. It has no place in ‘classic’ forms.
