What Defines A "Boost" And A "Carry". A Discussion, I Hope

Last night there was a heated discussion about a player running, what was described as a “Boosts”, in SM. This player did not clear every mob and skipped bosses. There was no talk about how this boost run was set up and what was aggreged to.

This open up the discussion of what defines a “Boost” or a “Carry”.

When the subject of the “Boost” took center stage, I popped in with a boost being the scraping every ounce of EXP from the dungeon for the purpose of leveling up. Loot just being a bonus. Get it done ASAP and repeat as needed.

I was told I was wrong and that what I said constituted a carry, which in my mind was getting help to reach a quest/loot goal.

This went on for an hour before I had to bail.

What do you define as a “Boost” and a “Carry”?

A boost is a deliberate action. A carry is someone who is just bad that gets carried by the others in the party.

I tend to agree with you on that. It’s called a boost or boosting - to propel upward. Carries usually mean you know, you get your guildies to run you through DM on your new alt.

Both are the same imo, one is typically just associated with gold.

You can buy a carry as well. That is someone who is bad, acknowledges it, and has no issues with compensating others to help achieve in-game goals they otherwise would not be able to attain, or obtain, due to their poor gameplay.

I suppose. Yeah they are pretty much the same word to me tbh. Blazingboosts sells boosts, seen Snutz advertise arena boosts/carries. I tell my friends ill boost them in levels on my mage (free). Tell my buddies, I’ll carry them in arena. I guess thinking about it, same thing?

Boosting / carries - I guess it’s all semantics really. But if I’m paying a person to run a dungeon for me for xp - then I expect my gold’s worth. If I’m paying a person to run a dungeon for me for the loot, I expect to be able to loot.

Carry usually means someone is dragging someone through content, either they have a higher skill cap and dragging a friend through a high arena rating, or carrying someone through a heroic when they’re not very geared.

A boost is more straightforward, you sit there and let the mage do all the work
