What decides BG Leader?

Haven’t played in a while but I’m definitely getting the feeling that somethings changed as far as how bg leader is decided. Does anyone know?

I have definitely been getting it like over 50% of the time and I am definitely not joining first…

It once was highest ranking player, eg highwarlord.

Not sure anymore.

Seems to me it’s always the first person on your team to enter the BG. People who don’t want lead can pass it to someone else.

Except I’ve had lead as I was first and someone else ended up with it and I never passed it.

Random. Be sure to mark healers if you get it. Ask for team to peel for them.

Its not 100% random I don’t think, you hardly ever see undergeared noobs getting it, at one point in legion when my rogue was “max gear” I seemed to get it a lot, perhaps its highest rank / gear / some sort of that ?

Then what do you think it is based on? From what I have seen, it is not the order in which people enter the bg, it is not the level of prestige, it is not gear level, it is not hk#s. It doesn’t seem to be based on any one thing.

I am not saying you are incorrect, I would just like to know how you confirm it isn’t random.

I have no idea. I never look who the leader is, and people rarely speak unless they’re defending a point on a node map (including me).

But now that you mention it, there’s been more than one occasion where I said something and noticed from the red text that I was actually the leader.

My HK’s, RBG rating, and honor level aren’t the highest but it’s certainly possible I could be higher than the average player in the BG.

But like I said, people rarely talk horde-side so it’s not really a factor. Maybe in the epic BG’s where there’s more variation in strategy.

I wish we had active Blues. This would be a great thread to start interacting with the community in. The question is quite simple, but only answerable by them.

I know dungeons have them, but being flagged as group leader prior to joining maybe. Also, I did some digging and it might be old pvp ranks

I’m pretty sure its the first player character to enter the new instance. Whomever that is becomes the BG instance raid leader.

As of a couple weeks ago, it was the leader of the largest group; I’m not sure what it was if there were no groups.

Recently, either larger groups are running, or the leader is now picked differently.

I solo que probably 99.9% of my games and I get lead frequently enough that I’m convinced it isn’t a coincidence. Maybe it looks at # of wins or highest honor level but there’s definitely some determinating factor. I’ve rarely seen people in greens get assigned lead for example. :pirate_flag:
