What class is best for soloing instance content?

I typically enjoy soloing old instance content on retail and world quests. I was wondering what class everyone feels is best for that.

[Edit:] Yes, I mean retail.

It’s subjective of course, but any class with high mobility to make it quicker.

Warriors for the weapon xmogs (minus wands).

Monks for their teleport back to the entrance.

Mage for blink.

Etc.

Just don’t do it as a resto shaman, because the lack of a true AoE makes it takes forever, even with my wolf.

i think mage. you can port to locations and get around outside quicker. can invis to get by spots you want to skip. can make your own food/water. can blink or even double blink. if mobs low enough, arcane explosion is one button aoe, instant cast with no cd.

I was looking at rogue or DK as that’s what I know best from previous xpacs. Someone told me that it was mostly “down to gear”. Would that be true?

Druid is nice. You have increased speed in the large layouts you have to run through, self heals, and stealth. It’s a good one for solo content. Feral druid is what I use for all my solo content.

Gear doesn’t matter unless you’re doing the previous xpac on Mythic difficulty, and a lot of those aren’t designed to be soloable (yet).

DK’s are the worst for mobility because Wraith Walk is trash. Rogue is good, sprint has a short CD and you have some mobility spells like Grappling Hook or Shadowstep.

Depends the purpose of the solo.

If it’s simply quick runs, mounts, transmog and such… Warriors are quite fantastic. They get almost all weapons to transmog, have really good mobility, excellent survival and damage.

Druids and Rogues are also very good options. Stealth and mobility makes everything easy. Especially a Outlaw Rogue for their Grappling Hook.

HOWEVER,

If you are soloing for achievements… more and more achievements can’t be solo’d anymore due to how they are performed. Thus, many require a pet class to be able to cheese them, unless they outright need more than 3 people to complete.
For that reason, a BM hunter is fantastic for solo content too. The pet can do so many things for you that it makes many achievements super easy.

or arcane mage with mirror selves and arcane explosion. the mirrors pull aggro too. usually off cd by the time you get to the next boss.

Same can be said of Druids with Dreamwalking

I really just want to solo for gold, rep, and enjoyment of doing the bosses. Achievements are cool but not strictly why I’d do them. I’m not much for xmog but I do like toys.

have an insta cast aoe with no cd? hehe

Yes its called Swipe

If that is the case, do them on your favorite class my friend. They all have advantages in old content.

oh mage doesnt have to stop moving. just run forward and aoe as you go. well, till its time to loot

Old raids - arcane mage, cause every arcane barrage gives you sprint and you also can teleport between expansions at will

precisely. well you have to pick the talent that gives you a sprint.

That’s a really good point.

Have you ever played a Druid?

Meh, it’s efficient but if you have other classes set up right, you can be just if not faster.

My main can do better than any mage and she’s a Paladin. The magic is engineering and a full speed/longstrider set. Engineering has the boost and all the transporter toys that teleport to every place a mage does.

You could also make/buy Bear Tartare, which gives you a speed boost every time you kill an enemy and lasts for 1 hour.
