Since Legion Blizzard treats the horde as a merely plot device to tell Sylvanas story. We lost Voljin so she could start the war and then lost Saurfang to end it.
And then we let ANDUIN MAKE A SPEECH IN ORGRIMMAR? This can work for the alliance becase they see themselfs as noble pacifists but it was soo stupid from a horde viewpoint. Where is the brave and ruthless horde from the past? We don’t even have a Warchief anymore.
And now we have to accept Thrall back after he left our faction just for loosing his powers? Where are our cool characters? Vol’jin? Dead. Saurfang? Dead. Baine? Pfff, Anduin’s pet. Sylvanas was butchered. Lor’thrmar just shows up to work with the alliance. How did ZEKHAN had more development in one expansion than any of the horde leaders in the last four? The best thing Blizzard can do is bring Thrall back? He’s so overutilized.
Don’t surprises me that people liked the Garrosh cutscene that much. He was the last horde character that was interesting.
At least they let us have high elfs so we can spit on alliance’s face one more time.

Blizzard would tell you, but they’re not quite sure either.

IDK what Blizzard is doing, but right now, I’m using the horde as cuddle machines. I don’t know what they’re saying, but they love to wrap me around their heads for some reason! Win-win!
Oh… you know what? I’m a pillow.

Joke’s on you, high elves are on both factions. So no, Horde hasn’t gotten anything special. In fact, the factions are irrelevant now because the story only cares about Sylvanas and Thanos-Zovaal, with Arthas-Anduin as a supporting character.

I have to assume they’re planning to kill off… What leaders do we have left?

We’ll just get a third expansion about “what it means to be Horde”, because we didn’t get that answer with Garrosh or Sylvanas. Look forward to Talanji going postal and drinking that Old God/Void Lord/Pantheon of Death juice to then screw over the Horde so the Horde and Alliance to come together again and beat her, only for her to escape to another time/dimension/planet/plane of existence to try and get her revenge using whatever gave her super powers or whatever.
I kid, but I do expect a third “What does it mean to be Horde?” expansion.

The only Horde leader in this expansion has been sitting lonely and dejected in a corner in Oribos while the Alliance leaders go have fun.
That is Blizzard’s vision for the Horde, our glorious purpose.

It’s shame because in the past they had some quite talented writers , for exemple the ronnhin saga. But I tried to read the shadowlands book recently and it is simply unreadable.
I actually wouldn’t mind that, but they have to do it right.
The whole “noble savage” worked in WC3 and vanilla, but now things are complicated.
Belfs and Nightborne are noble, but certainly not savage.
Talanji, Thalyssra, and Lorthemar have literal empires to rebuild, and it will be interesting to see what they do with the Vulpera, since the ones we have state they originally came from “across the sea” in a land where there are presumably many more vulperas.
The UC needs to be rebuild, etc etc…
Or… and far more likely… they just ignore all that and give us a full expansion of Sylvanas redumption.

Your view of Baine as Anduin’s pet is not shared or supported by all members of the horde
Well, we have the recent cinematic at the end of the raid. And the novel coming out next year literally titled Sylvanas. And I have the sinking suspicion that her story won’t actually end at the end of Shadowlands, that she’s going to come back with us to Azeroth, and 10.0 is going to somehow be a Horde vs. Alliance expansion where Sylvanas has to find a way to quell the fires of war started because…I don’t know, Thrall doesn’t let Tyrande execute Sylvanas because “She has a soul now, guys. :(” and we’ll be on a long journey of using some Windrunner asset powers (we gotta’ keep AP, right?) to end the war and put Sylvanas as the Queen of Azeroth or something.
I don’t know, it sounds ridiculous, but so does everything we’ve done in Shadowlands so far so.
I would love a return to Azeroth, complete fresh start, basically stop all of the open story pages right now and jump forward a few years so that we can ground ourselves on Azeroth again. There’s so much to be done, I don’t want more Sylvanas and I really don’t want more cosmic stuff.
Horde classic= trolls, tauren, orco
Horda actually= belf, vulpera, Nelf, zandalar=fanservice

This was technically a situation that Metzen couldn’t perform and thus his character wasn’t used for the rest of Legion. Maiev’s actor also had the same situation which made her absent from Argus.
That said, the direction of the horde in the hands of Garrosh and Sylvanas couldn’t function with Thrall. Garrosh killed Cairne. Sylvanas assaults Malfurion. It can’t work.

First raid “Ashes of Teldrasill” where Sylvanas can redeem herself by laying the Nelf Ghosts to rest.
Second raid “Ashes of Undercity” where Sylvanas can redeem herself by laying the Forsaken Ghosts to rest.
Third raid "Ashes of… ok well you get the gist.
Surprise, you are not the horde of the past you have changed since then and so have humans the big change now is the night elves it is time for their change .
What is with both factions is the real question.
Horde were written to be a bunch of idiots who served Sylvanas and would rather lick her feet than help Saurfang. All for them to get duped in the end as she ditches her loyalists for the Shadowlands. Meanwhile Alliance was written as barriers for Sylvanas to overcome, sacrifices so she could achieve her goal of saving us all from ourselves. Now it’s all coming full circle, we’ve allowed Steve Danuser’s waifu to reclaim her kindness and good soul so we can all sit down and weep over what we’ve put her through. 9.4 - The Wings of Forgiveness.

The seeds for the problems they are now facing were sown in the earlier expansions. (When guys like Metzen and Afrasiabi were running the show). Decisions done to just make a cool next game, to give us a step up in challenge and stakes, had really bad implications 10 years down the line.
The largest, but in some ways the simplest, of the bad decisions was this: They made the Horde and Alliance too powerful. Too powerful on Azeroth itself. Too powerful in relation to the cosmos. Except for a universe-ending danger (like Sargeras), the only real threat to the Horde is the Alliance and the only real threat to the Alliance is the Horde.
By making them too powerful, they penned themselves into three basic options in order to have serious “stakes”:
- Faction war.
- Faction civil war.
- New cosmological threat. (Retconning the past to squeeze a new ancient threat in, because they exhausted the old cosmology).
Pick your poison.
