If you’re still RPing in WoW: What are you RPing? Are you partaking in guild plots? Community-driven events a la Year of the Scourge? Still meandering around for walk-ups?
If you’re RPing elsewhere: Where? Another game? Any fun plots?
I’d love to hear what fun stuff everyone’s been getting up to lately. Cool plots, general shenanigans, they are all good and fun. Feel free to show pictures of characters too. Character customization in some other games at the moment is quite amazing.
Personally, I’m still poking about on WrA. I had a pretty fun Pirates’ Day walk-up on a new character last night in Stormwind. I’ve been dipping my toes into Horde too, though I’ll admit it’s a bit intimidating trying to say hello to someone in Orgrimmar and start something. I’ve been planning out a plot for Discord as well, involving a friend of mine for some Emerald Nightmare and Void-related business.
Well, its always waiting for you to tag along. Personally; I’ve left WoW for this, and if they decide to punish my inactive account for this. So be it. I’m having fun elsewhere and could use the certainty to never return to old habits.
There is always a risk to be had. But this time; I’m going to break the rules.
I am having a pretty good time in SWTOR leveling and rping with my wife. We’ve got a handful of characters we’ve been swapping between on Imperial side. Eventually we’ll get to the Republic but it’s so much fun to be a badguy in that game.
You know this is gonna sound weird (or maybe not, given that Sarestha is a Death Knight who thinks of herself as a “Paladin of Forsaken Lordaeron”) but my absolute favourite playthrough on star wars was a Light-side (ish) Sith. Embracing the Sith Code but having “passion” for the strength and prosperity of the Empire, experiencing hatred and rage for the disloyal, etc etc. Basically I played a hyper patriotic but ultimately well-intentioned sith and it was tremendous fun haha.
Good game, SWTOR! I wouldn’t random RP there with the lore inconsistencies, but it’s got the most immersive quest experience of any mmo on the market.
I started RPing a Roegadyn in FF14.
It was tempting to name her after Kass, but I decided not to. It’s always tempting to transplant over OCs, but I have found that it just ends up being a partially regretted decision in the long run.
So she has a new name, a Roegadyn Sea Wolf name.
At first, her personality was fairly akin to Kass’, but over time I’ve changed it a great deal.
Kass
Kass grew up poor, father left home to become a pirate, mother died in an alchemy accident. She went to live with extended family, found them hard to deal with (with exceptions). Got into bad relationships, got caught stealing, and was eventually pressed into service to pay off the debt. Surprisingly, it ended up changing her life for the better. While her sailor friends weren’t the best influences, it did help her make *real* friends and find purpose in her life. Then they all died in Cataclysm and she pretty much decided to start over and look for new careers, now older, sadder, and wiser.
Eventually, she found work in the Northern Barrens at Ratchet, then the Crossroads. Which is where she is/was with the Southfury Watch. Roegadyn The Roegadyn Sea Wolf grew up wealthy, but ran away from home at nineteen when her mother tried to force her into an arranged marriage with Ul’dahn aristocracy. She scrounged to get by in Limsa Lominsa, until she found work with a band of smugglers.
She spent the next six years finding her true self, not what her mother wanted her to be, as well as becoming more street smart and gaining self confidence. She still works for the smugglers, which is what I am primarily RPing with a friend.
In some regards, the Roegadyn is what Kass was like pre-Cataclysm, but with a kookier personality. So it’s kind of like exploring an AU version of the character set in the past, like “what would Kass be like if she had less tragedy in her life and the friends she made around the age of twenty hadn’t died (yet)”, but it’s also different because of how dissimilar their families were and which parent she grew to resent is flipped.
I love the alignment system, any game where the dialog option is [Shock him/her again!] Is win! My only, only wish is there was some kind of acknowledgement of Gray characters.
It’s easy to go through picking all Light or all Dark options without a thought, but actually balancing neutral takes work.
I managed to maintain a perfect alignment all the way to endgame back at launch but basically only accomplished locking myself out of Dark/Light rewards.
I tried SWOTR way, way back in 2012 or 2013. I’ve thought about giving it a shot again, but I can’t say I’d RP there, personally.
I’d love to explore some AUs of my characters, but I find it incredibly difficult to start RPing in another game. I think I’m just very, very used to the way it’s done in WoW, and the systems in this game compared to others. Maybe one day. It’s definitely a great way to explore AUs.
Anyways as for what I’ve been up to in RP… I’ve returned to this game again and I’ve been having fun, despite my disillusionment with the story. Things started off a bit quiet. I was previously leader of the Unbound Order, but I stepped down at the beginning of February due to personal reasons, and pretty quickly quit the game after that point. I was utterly burned out. One of my officers, Evelandria, took the reigns and has restructured the guild (and done a magnificent job), but Shadowlands DID take a toll on the guild in general.
Anyway we went from like 10 people per event to 4, but we’re starting up RP plots again in our own late night kind of way and it’s been fun! On the Unbound Order side we’re trying to establish a base of operations in the Eastern Kingdoms where we can subtly hinder Alliance efforts to retake Lordaeron (They’ve already retaken Southshore according to Exploring Azeroth: Eastern Kingdoms). We’re still in Orgrimmar drumming up support for now though. I’ve also had quite a few more lighthearted random RPs in Orgrimmar, often on more silly characters like Edgar Thondroril, my grump old warlock. It’s been fun! Personal plots have also been a big deal. Sarestha’s got a close friend who’s succumbing gradually to rotbrain, and she’s trying to do everything she can to save him from mental decay, so far to no avail.
Currently, my project is attempting to present something to fill the absence of troll guilds that have persisted since BfA. While it is not a true troll guild since it is a guild for anyone who is a legal resident of Zandalar (i.e, Trolls, Vulpera and Sneks).
Outside of this, it is still very much a progress of getting the ball rolling with my character being an individual looking to find people willing and able to help restore Zandalar’s once great image, make amends where they should be made and otherwise help look out for the homeland’s interests in the face of a changing world and a hostile foreign power.
Ah, yeah. Guilds that were thriving Alliance-side when SL began have shrunk a lot at this point, so far as I can tell. If they are RPing together, it’s mostly not been on retail I think. I’m glad you all at the Unbound Order are still doing alright, all things considered. It’s a rough time.
I’m glad you’ve still been having fun out in walk-ups! The Pirates’ Day RP I participated in on my alt last night was positively hilarious. It was a nice change of pace from the usual walk-up I get on this toon.
Insert me ranting about how much of modern lore is presented in books outside of the game rather than in-game.
I’ve thought about rolling a Zandalari or Vulpera recently, I’m just unsure about which idea to go with. I have a couple ideas for either. If I settle on something soon, I might give you a poke on that toon if you don’t mind.
insert Rastakhan or Talanj voice file for when you click on them too much
Both are welcome! Kurk’hano is what I shall call the ‘casual man’s troll’ in that he does make mvoes to help Zandalar, but he’s also not the grossly overzealous Pan-Troll Supremacist type since he’s seen what that does and how useful it is (i.e, not)
While RP events when they happen might have some form of combat, the main theme of the guild wont be military, it will likely be a mix of Civil and Magic with the absurdity that brings.
I do have to ask, though: With the (current) lack of customization options to Zandalari trolls compared to some other races in the game, do you mind if someone were to use the Darkspear Troll model for a Zandalari troll purely due to the additional customization? That is to say- keeping aesthetics close to those of Zandalari, and just taking advantage of the additional hair styles and the like afforded to the (Darkspear) troll models at the moment.
I see no reason this would be much of an issue. Even if in game model doesn’t most already RP their trolls standing upright. This combined with the fact Zul, supposedly Zandalari, was still hunched over says there is probably about as much variation in body types and posture among trolls as there is humans, so this works just fine as I see it.
Alrighty, fantastic. I’m heavily bothered how so many of the female Zandalari hairstyles look like poorly fitted wigs on a bald head. I just know some people can be a bit fidgety about using different models to represent different things, so I figured I’d ask first.
entirely understandable. All considered, I was half-expecting you asked this in regards to the male models since the two are so much more drastically different than the female models thanks to posture.
I can understand that, looking back at the post where I asked. But, nope! Truth be told, I usually default to female characters. I’ll poke you in-game sometime, probably by mail when I level. Thanks for chatting about it, by the way!
