Welcome to every BG this expansion, minus the brief window after double tap got removed and all the hunters rage quit before realizing it’s still busted in BGs lol.
Queue with a moonkin though and watch the hunters be a little sad.
I recall them being really strong, but not killing people I’m actively spamming heals on. Lol
Blizz keeps buffing the spec for no reason.
Their damage needs to be buffed in PvE, nerfed in PvP, and they need some better defensives. Hunter’s problem isn’t damage, it’s survivability.
Seems like you might be talking about this BG. Alyrico sent me this overnight before I saw this post. I usually duo queue with him, but didn’t play last night. He said he got backfilled into this losing BFG.
I like how he was still able to go 7-0 in this BG, given the disparity in kills. MM hunter is pretty much the only DPS that can still have some fun in matches like these, outside of sub rogue.
Doing well in a BG like this is a true testament to how strong a spec is, IMO. It’s easy to do well when your team is rolling the other team. The big problem with hunters is that they take a situation where one team might be a little stronger than the other and turn it into a match like that one.
They are a massive force multiplier.
You are correct, this is the one. Lol Was literally double Serenity then flash spamming people and… they were just dying.
Craziest part is it wasn’t like a CD phase, they would burn someone then just go on to the next. Spec seems like it never runs out of gas.
Yeah, it’s not reliant on any lengthy cooldowns to do big damage. It’s just maybe opening with sniper shot into explosive shot, death chakrams, and rapid fire. These are all on short cooldowns. And while you wait for that combo to come back up, your filler are aimed shots that can crit for over 300K on cloth. Oh yes, and kill shots on low health targets that are nearby.
I did 350K single target DPS on a priest a couple of nights ago with no consumables or zerker while they had one flag stack. And that level of damage is available every 45 seconds.
It can’t be overstated how absolutely broken this spec is in BGs. This damage could have happened even in a rated BG. More actually, if I had berserker.
Not in a BG, it isn’t. With sniper shot, positioning and awareness hunters should be taking very few deaths in random BGs. If they are dying a lot then it is totally on them and they aren’t playing well.
Look at Alyrico in the screenshot above. His team is getting stomped, but he takes zero deaths. MM hunter is a very high reward spec with very low risk to play. I personally feel like I have played poorly if I take more than two deaths (talking random BGs here).
Side note: Their survivability in BGs will actually be getting nerfed in 10.2 Feign death no longer removing magic effects will lead directly to more MM hunters dying.
Increase survivability when being trained by Melee. Getting a 90% damage reduction for 3 seconds after using FD will go a long way, especially when that warrior is twirling his way through a trailer park.
Yeah, the new feign death will have it’s situational advantages. I just don’t find melee that difficult to deal with for getting away as long as I have cooldowns relative to losing the ability to remove magic effects, which is huge for getting emergency camos off when being chased.
There is a trade off, but I’d rather have the current feign death. Also, the current feign death provides 1.5 seconds of damage reduction. The 10.2 version is going to be 3 seconds, so that really isn’t too much of an improvement over what we already have for damage mitigation.
Between Melee and Casters, I have more problems with Melee. Casters are almost a free HK.
I’m not talking about 1v1s. I’m talking about a situation where you have four people chasing you and you have flame shock, moonfire and sunfire on you.
With the current feign death, you can remove those and camo to safety. In 10.2, you will just die. It is also good for getting away from a hunter that has marked you since it removes mark. Here is a quick example. I die in this situation in 10.2 due to the upcoming changes.
Melee is just generally easier to get away from when you are being chased by multiple players since they can’t apply their dots from range.

Hunters are trash if you close the distance.
Easier said than done, however.
Sure, i do it all the time. Close the distance, curse of weakness, unending resolve, release the burst and its over for them. If they get range theyre annoying, thats why they just sit back and snipe front line enemies in bgs

Well your first mistake is letting 4 people live. You’re an MM hunter, if people in the BG are alive it’s because you allow them to be.
In regards to PvE, 2v2, 3v3, and RBG… they do. The problem is that Blizzard doesn’t really know what to do with MM spec, so they just keep buffing raw damage in hopes that it helps. What MM Hunters really need is some added utility and defensives that add value to a team, instead of adding value to the hunter.
As far as class fantasy, there’s only so much you can do with a Marksman Hunter. Bola shot would be great as an individual skill, but they added it to Aimed Shot. Serpent Sting? They added it to Aimed Shot. In their effort to reduce button bloat for classes, they just lumped everything onto one of the hunters most powerful shots.
If a warlock closes the distance on me, hits every cooldown and kills me then it is what it is. But you better believe I’m gonna throw a 70% slow on you at 50 yard range for the rest of the bg so you won’t be closing the distance…you’ll be waddling around in my 40-50 yard range and randomly getting stunned from steady shot
