What 2H "tanks" haven't figured out yet, but will eventually

Well, now you know there isn’t just one singular way of doing your tanking job.

This just means they were doing it wrong.

I think if we want to generalise things, then the short version is 2h tanking is fine for most guild runs in most circumstances, and S/S is best for PUGs, in most circumstances.

No one cares about the healers until they run oom, and then they are no good.

Healer run oom because they didn’t place windfury totem in the right place when Im using my WW Axe .

If you use macros to stancedance you can interrupt with pummel without a shield and you can taunt from berserker or battle stance. You must have the armstalent that retains 30 rage when switching stances but this allows you so much freedom when tanking.

I use have a macro to swap out ravageror my sword and board and most of my stance-specific abilities are macros in with stance changes if not in the righ5 stance. So much fun. What should you bestuck in D stance? Mob running? Hamstring or execute! Taunt resisted? Mocking blow! Need mor3 rage? Grrrf berserk!

Once you explore these abilities more you will start to understand that it is ok and fun and more efficient to be flexible and adapt your play style to the situation instead of being stuck in shield an d defensive stance all the time

What the what? My friend there is no need for explosives. You can tank just fine without them

Lol. All this talk about dps meters. Thats what dps is for. As tank just soak damage and pool rage. The way i see it, the less the healer has to drink, the better job im doing.

And i have rage for the next pull. I don’t need to generate rage because i already have it.

Tanking isnt some sort of personal ego trip to show your dps.

im not the one saying you need explosives thats Ravid who’s saying you need thorium shield spike explosives and a force reactive disk

I remember trying to heal a 2H tank while leveling and doing the elite troll quests in Hinterlands. It was tough and I was ignored when I asked him to use a shield. Then a resto shaman joined the group so I was happy to pass off those duties to him.

The tank’s damage was incredibly spiky and we wiped a few times. As soon as we finished the quest at the top, the healer immediately dropped and hearthed even though the tank wanted to go into the cave.

I needed the cave, too, but screw that so I left.

About an hour later I went back to help some guildies and do the cave and, of course, that tank was still there spamming for a group to join him. I walked by his corpse and battle rezzed a druid corpse next to him, then continued on.

I’m sure that he was convinced that the problem was bad healing.

a shield is 10% damage reduction and a 5% chance to block unless you are prot. actually why did you even need a tank for the troll quest just bring a full group use cc for bigger packs

Surprised this thread got necro’d… I want to take a sec and clarify…

I wrote this post when Classic was a month old and I was getting frustrated watching warriors running around Ulda and Mara with their 2h’s tanking like they would in retail. Spamming SS+WW in zerker stance, meanwhile mobs were uncontrolled, attacking the healer, dps (and healers) were easily pulling aggro, and the healer was going OOM on every pull. It was slow and inefficient.

Natural learning curve. Most tanks have figured it out by now.

There are obviously times where DW or 2h tanking is appropriate or even preferred and yes, can speed up the run considerably. But you gotta know when to do it…

When I wrote this post, I was specifically talking about the levelling experience. I was trying to emphasize that tanking (in my opinion) is more about controlling the fight rather than smashing mobs to bits. Sometimes you can do both. And sometimes it’s better to put on a shield on and let the other members of your group do the smashing while you control the battle.

That’s all.

i was all hyped about bw/2h tanking until you said Heroic > Sunder for threat, and Revenge is garbage.

I thought that should be a common understanding that Revenge is the best threat per rage, and Sunder > HS threat per rage, regardless 2h/dw/shield. There are numerous posts with actual numbers.

I’ve had 2H Warriors run through and pull trash, then switch to using a shield just before a Boss fight. Personally I don’t care as long as it all works. I have also had warriors try to 2 hand it all the way through, even in the tougher boss fights, and it doesn’t always work.

2h tanks are less than optional for actual tanking to be honest, but depending on the players in the group, it can work sometimes. If they switch out for the tougher fights, I appreciate it.

A big pet peeve of mine is when they rush into a fight when I am at less than half mana, after I have already told them I am almost Oom.
If I fuss at them a little, then they “lol” and keep doing it, I get annoyed and will let them die once to give them the kick in the rear they seem to really want. After that, they usually cooperate with me more. This, and trying to leave me 2 rooms behind because I plopped down to take a slurp is probably the thing that is most annoying to me.

Bad healer spotted. Letting someone die is basically stealing gold from them via repairs.

I main priest in vanilla and I never let anyone die to teach them a lesson. If I let someone die it was usually dps that died because they were running me out of mana required for tank to survive.

oh man, doesn’t matter dw or shield tanking, please don’t say something you don’t know

2hd tanks is a private server thing i never herd of it just like dw tanking back in vanilla when i played.

private servers is the reason to blame for all the 2hd and dw tanking.

For every 10 tanks I’ve seen trying the 2H style, one MAYBE two of them made it work.

Most were idiots that think watching videos of something being done is the same as knowing how to do it.

Imagine me standing near you watching a mob killing you and I don’t taunt off you because I’m teaching you to how to use fade.

Excuse me? I haven’t done this but once, and it was because the “tank” was being a jerk, and refusing to cooperate with the group. He had caused a wipe because kept jumping into battle when I had less than 500 mana after he overpulled while trying to tank with a 2H weapon. Then laughed and kept doing it when I complained.

Seriously, what would you have really done?
