Ebyssiand, Nozdormu, Kadgar, are all GREAT characters, at least to me, the feel like that older wiser type WHICH IS GOOD TO HAVE IN A STORY.
Note: I have not played thus patch so they may have done a 30 degree turn on Ebys, but from the few videis ive seen, he is still a smart wiser elder type character than a strong leader.
Actually I feel like toxic masculinity adds something to the cast. Itâs weird when garrosh and arthas arenât around doing heinous things for me to get mad at.
You can be masculine without being toxic. Were Thrall pre cata and Varyian Toxic? Sire D was an ahole but was one of, if not the favorite new characters from SL. There are places for masculine male figures. But that mindset is why I think blizz do not deliberately add them.
His entire arc this patch is about leadership. I wonât throw any spoilers at you if you havenât played it, but he is portrayed as a leader. Heâs also a strong male. So he fits the definition.
While Kadghar doesnât have an important role in this expansion so far (he does have a role, but not a prominent one), heâs definitely a strong, action oriented, and a leader. Heâs also portrayed more as a middle aged man than an elder.
In the timeframe you seem to include we also had Saurfang, who fits every criteria for a strong male lead, even the traditional looks. Heâs called the âold soldierâ.
Anduin, while still young, is definitely headed towards this path as well. Apart from his looks, heâs always shown strength (in every sense of the word) and courage. I think that the next time we meet him heâll have a beard and a more mature look (he feels like a very Captain America kind of character).
They got tired of being warriors and paladins and rolled evokerâŠ
but in a more serious theme, arenât they all dead? donât you need a younger generation to refill those who pass on? isnât that how this whole thing called life works?
In the game, I have mostly been drawn to two races: Tauren and the Foresaken. I think they, in combination, sum up my meta take on masculinity. The strong caring for others and resource for protection of the Tauren. The doing what is necessary in a difficult world and pushing through any barrier (even death) when required of the Foresaken.
As stated elsewhere, Ebyssian is sort of an attempt at that in DF, I guess. At least with the more classical Tauren flavor.
Interesting that you brought up Illidan. He might sum all of those up, too. the cut scene ârefusal of the giftâ in legion is one of the very few scenic pieces that moved me. (search for it on the youtubes)
A lot of people think that only red-bull-pounding, ADHD monkey brains play demon hunter. Maybe. but I think there are folks who play demon hunter who understand Illidanâs proclamation: âI am my scars!â
It has itâs place in the story, there is nothing wrong with emotional guys and I never said such. I am pointing out the absence of a character type while (granted more extremely) pointing out the current cast of characters.
The Age of Strong Male leads came to an end with Varian Wrynnâs valiant death. After seeing him turned to dust all âstrongâ male leads questioned if they could do the same and are still contemplating the issue.
