(toon) was fairly common usage in Vanilla also, but I never played The Realm.
I have always heard it as Want to By Want to Sell, so pretty much same thing.
And as far as agro, while agro is a measurement I have mostly used it to just denote having an NPC lock onto you and attack.
Be careful how close you get to that mob or you will agro it.
I honestly do not think that WoW originated any terms. Even though twinks were massively popularized in this game the term has been used all the way back to MUDs and pen/paper game.
oh oh oh a challenge!!! Now to wrack the memory banks for wow coined terms!!
Got nothing so far
PST isn’t onomatopoeia??
At least I’m not alone in thinking that
Where did MT start? Misstell, as well as main tank?
It’s sorta both that’s why it’s so awesome.
That’s a good one. . definitely a contextual usage.
Crack and sow baby
Fair enough, I didn’t hear it used on my server for a few xpacs and didn’t have characters on other servers/didn’t use the forums much for a couple years so I was pretty isolated from the wow community as a whole for awhile. The Realm started in 1996 I didn’t play it either.
Aggro has been the shortened form of aggressive since the 60s.
Mob predates EQ and any mmo. Its from the era of MUDs.
Not a surprise, it was very common usage in EQ tho.
Oh definitely, most of the terms used in WoW were used in EQ, UO, and any other mmo before WoW. Most of the terms that pertain to mmo’s specifically predate mmo’s and come from MUDs tho. The only one I can think of off the top of my head that didn’t is nerf.
It was /tell in EQ/EQ2 instead of /whisper
/whisper also worked… just like they both work in wow. Pretty sure /camp and /logout would do the same thing too in EQ like wow as well.
