You know what’s super cringe. Sitcoms that try to use embarrassing situations as short hand for comedy. But you know what else is super cringe. Degrading people for enjoying themselves in a fictional universe (disclaimer as long as everyone involved are aware and provided agency. Being a creepy stalker is the super cringe of them all)

I’ve never seen that sort of thing go well on rp servers. I’ve had a lot of friends on them and it ALWAYS has ended in someone stalking people across toons, discords, media and also trying to find out where others live irl and mixing up irl with the game. I’ve seen a lot of cases where authorities ended up getting involved too, so it really should just be something that’s left out of the game for overall safety tbh.
I’ve seen it go bad and I’ve seen it go well. Couple of friends of mine got married IRL and then got married in FF for those of us that are friends in the game. These features aren’t the issue. Creeps will be creeps. They’ll find a way. I’ve seen them decide that just saying something in the public chat of a discord is enough to draw that kind of unwanted attention.
I don’t think we should punish everyone by disregarding any feature that could be used or creep behavior (frankly cause you’d need to remove all features) I think what’s needed is better safeguards to protect against that kind of behavior and companies that hold those type of people fully responsible for engaging in that kind of behavior.

Nah just ban and go after people that take things too far. Marriage is in FFXIV and this sort of thing does not seem widespread. Guilds btw also create a lot of drama of similar sort of stuff, but haven’t been removed. And I’ve been stalked just from posting on the forums. The baby shouldn’t be thrown out with the bathwater.

It was a fantasy rpg game. It was fun to kill dragons. Now people are running around with bunny costumes and demand marriage ceremonies. laaaammmeee.

Thankfully, I am an artist and can draw this character with his canon wife. I was speaking more in terms of an NPC I can marry, though.
