Just because you’re casual doesn’t mean that’s not why there is a cap. That is the reason, without it people would grind thousands. Would it be nice if the cap was higher? Yes, of course.
What other purpose would there need to be? Slowing down players is only valid and servers it purpose, just like raid lockouts, daily quests, world quests etc.

What happens when you replace ilvl ~670ish gloves with ilvl ~650ish gloves with better secondaries.
How many crests does it take to get your new gloves where your old ones were.
These two things say the same thing but you don’t like the way the first way is put.
Which leads me to believe you are VERY MUCH the reason caps exist.
You know what else exists? Liability for corporations who make dopamine machines so good that people kill themselves playing.

No. Because you’re still upgrading the gear piece. They all have rank numbers on them. Do you not read tooltips?
If you have Champ 2/5, but like the Vet 1/5 and upgrade that Vet piece, you’re still using stones to upgrade the piece. You just don’t use Crests, because you are discounted from a higher level piece of gear you had there previously.
If you upgrade a Vet 2/5 to 5/5 and then replace it with a 1/5… it doesn’t magically become a 5/5. Because ranks are not on slots. Upgrades are on gear pieces.
You’re not even technically correct because we are and were talking crests.
Not stones.
Crests.
If you spend crests of any sort on a slot to reach a given ilvl you never have to do that again, regardless of whether the replacement/replacee is explorer, veteran, champion, hero, whatever.
Valor stones? Sure, but we’re not talking about valor stones.
We’re talking crests.
So if you replace an 8/8 veteran piece with a 1/8 champion piece, to get back to the same ilvl you spend zero crests.

You’re the one claiming we upgrade slots when we don’t. We get DISCOUNTS for upgrades on new items that are lower ilevels. The only bizarre argument is yours.
Pretty sure this is earlier than your involvement, and you yourself say you use stones (which are sooooooooo not an issue now, no more new season starvation there omg pls don’t argue with THAT) and agreed on the crest thing

This some BS. I wasn’t grinding at ALL and I already capped this week and I’ve yet to finsih the rest of my weeklies. Definately NOT pleased with that and now I get to waste all the other ones I could get.

I’ve noticed the crests from faction renown don’t seem to affect the weekly cap.
I had a couple of new 80s that I held off on grabbing renown rewards the last couple weeks in anticipation of season 3; They benefited greatly.
I’m not sure why, but during the first pre-season week of every patch, boxes ignore the limit on crests. Blizzard finds out and fixes it before the season starts. I got like 190 weathered crests
What gear? I have cleared all the released content and unlocked delves up to 11 and have gotten no gear this week worth spending anything on. Kind of mad actually. All delves are good for is the vault for next week when the raid opens. I didn’t get anything even close to competing with my current gear this week.
Now I know to not even bother until the season actually starts.

Just play another character if you get capped.

No, wrong. You’re never ever not going to have the harder-to-get currency to get a slot back to where it was.
This is a good thing. This mens “better secondaries” is a choice you don’t even have to think about.
Because you upgrade the slot.
Now the METHOD involved, sure, you upgrade a piece of gear.
But what you’re really doing is setting a new baseline minimum for that SLOT in terms of “does it cost crests to go higher.” (for a new, lower piece of gear)
New base = no it does not. Slot upgraded.
And again, that’s a good thing. Regardless of what you or I think of each other, the end result of the thing we’re bickering over is something to our benefit.
There’s some crests you can get that don’t count toward the cap, like the rewards from renown.
I’m just saying to hell with it and upgrading Vet gear this week, not even worrying about vault and won’t have time for all that delve grinding really. In two weeks we’ll all be swimming in Champ gear looking to move past that 
I’m mainly a delver so…you guys who complained about hero gear in delves win this round, lol. I think I’m all grinded out.
