Weathered Ethereal Crests limited to 90?

Also Capped my Weathered Crests x90 and x38 Carved Crests, just Grinding Quests (world/Campaign/etc…) and some minor Delves (up to tier 6 so far) so reaching cap every simple and quick

I got 6 carved earlier for doing a delve-8 if I remember right, So it shouldn’t be hard to cap those out fairly fast.

Also, this was interesting, if you are hurting for gear on an alt, the undermines quests seemed to be rewarding adventurer level S3 gear. At least storyline type ones. I hadn’t done the apartment bit on the alt I was on today, and picked up a couple of items fooling around down there.

Sadly got a veteran tier cloak as my reward from the box on the arathor weekly, that was kind of a waste.

lol its cute that you think this is blizz looking out for you and not an additional layer of timegating to artificially stretch gearing so people spend even more time on…

To be fair if there wasn’t a cap people would grind them until they were useless, and then grind a bunch more so they could upgrade them into the higher crests. It’s better for the game to space them out a bit. It also makes it a game of spending them wisely.

But I do agree it would be nice if the cap was a little higher :slightly_smiling_face:

This. If there was no cap the true degens would have thousands to max gear and upgrade to the next type as soon as they got the gear level achievement

I think there is a problem with the distribution of Etereal Crests. My first character was getting more Carved out of delves than the second one. I also noticed Carved crests completely stopped dropping for me when I hit 69/90. I did not start watching them until I was basically done with character and wanted to cap them before switching. I was at the 69/90 and did four quests for 10 carved each but the needle never moved.

We’re capped on progress

Crests from boxes don’t seem to obey the crest limit

Oddly, (after Capped) World Quests will NOT reward the Crests (marked red in quest info.) but I just finished a Weekly Quest (10 Odd Globs of Wax) and was rewarded x5 Crest…

Also that BIG FROG Rare (that you feed fish to activate) in Hallowfall/Lights Blooming awarded me x10 Crests

[Overflowing Trove of the Deep] had some in it… but were denied to me due to cap.

I hit the cap for both weathered and carved less than 24 hours after the patch dropped, and I wasn’t even trying to – just doing my delves and clearing the new zone. I know, cry me a river, but it feels bad after not having a cap at all for so long last season.

I take it this is your first “season” in WoW?

Seems like 90 is a bit low. I get the idea of not having an endless amount of crests, but it takes very little to earn the 90 and then it seems like a waste of time to do quests that pay in those crests and you get nothing for doing them. Since it takes 15 to do an upgrade, you get 6 upgrades until the cap gets lifted. When you reach the cap, it would be nice if the reward would change to gold or something else useful.

It’s always been an issue, and here’s why it’s an issue: you can and will hit that cap, especially if you’re doing content that constantly rewards the same type of crests and are also upgrading crests once you’ve earned the achievements allowing you to do so. I know because I hit it last season with Runed Undermine Crests.

And that was extremely annoying because I’d be doing the Undermine raid on heroic but constantly be getting carved crests. Could I turn those carved crests into runed crests at the crest vendor? Yes, but that gives you a ‘pack’ of crests, and you can’t open that pack if you’re capped. So I’d have these packs of runed crests in my bag wasting space until next week, and then I’d have two choices: do heroic Undermine again and cap runed crests that way and still have packs of crests in my inventory, or use the packs of crests in my inventory and get downgraded crests because I’m capped.

The cap serves absolutely no valid purpose other than artificially slowing down players. It’s an annoying feature that needs to go the way of the dodo.

Yeah it’s low. My priest that I started playing yesterday is already capped at 90. I switched alts so I don’t waste my time.

It’s cute that you don’t think players will grind out over a thousand weathered/carved crests in the first week so that they can be ready to upconvert to max gilded by the start of the season.

Just about spat out my drink.

What, you find it hard to believe?

That some players would pursue an otherwise uncapped source of power to a point that it’s detrimental to both potentially themselves and other players who then have to compete with them for group spots?

Have you ever played the MMORPG World of Warcraft™?

I don’t really know how to respond to this, to be honest.

You don’t really upgrade gear, you upgrade slots, and a given ilvl jump is accomplished by an associated type of crest.

The caps exist so players don’t give themselves DVT or do four day heart attack marathons.

It kinda sounds like maybe they had you in mind. (I’m not saying that to be snotty or mean but I recognize it could very easily be taken that way.) If you’re at your cap then you are super competitive and congrats, your progression chores (in terms of crests, at least) are done and you can move on to professions or collecting stuff you’ll need to get that BiS craftable made, whatever. Or an alt, or twink a locked low alt, or go outside, even. Make your bed, clean your bathroom, the possibilities are endless.

For a given character, over an entire season, you will never run into “I can’t ever upgrade this piece of gear because I cannot possibly earn the crests needed because of the cap.”

That’s what I meant.

I didn’t mean “It’s 11 hours into the season and I’m not 991, these caps SUCK.”

You’re quite literally upgrading pieces of gear. Don’t talk nonsense. The rank of your gear determines what crests you need, if any.

No, it exists to slow people down, and it’s completely arbitrary.

Let me be clear, I am a casual player. I only raid normal and heroic, and I do delves; that’s it. I don’t bother with M+; I have no interest in mythic raiding. Hell, this season I’ll be even more casual with raiding than I was last season, and yet I still reached the Runed Undermined Crest cap, which meant all the runes I was earning from clearing heroic undermine were being converted into carved crests.

Since I already had most of the gear I needed from heroic Undermine, not getting runed crests meant that there was no incentive to do that content other than to help out my raid group. The large numbers of carved crests I was getting that I’d eventually turn into runed crests certainly weren’t incentives.

They exist so people who no-life the game early on don’t get an insurmountable lead over the people who don’t. If they didn’t throttle it, pugging would be even more miserable than it already it. Everyone would be expected to be a max hero week 1 or they wouldn’t get into groups.

It’s annoying for me because I only do delves and community raids, so I don’t benefit from it, but I understand the necessity.
