Hello everyone. After some time with a two handed weapon, I want to go full 1h and shield. Witch warrior spec is better for that? I find 2H auto attack way too slow and I don’t want to dual wielding. It would be nice to have that extra defense with a shield
Protection is the standard sword and board, however at lower levels for Warrior it’s good to go 1h + shield as you don’t have many stats, and mobs will hit hard. Plus, as you said, 2h autos are kind of slow.
Both Fury and Arms can do 1h + shield, and while Fury can dual wield, doesn’t have to. But generally Arms is a better lower level Warrior spec.
Protection should be avoided until at least Outland if you plan to solely tank dungeons to level. It’s the worst choice by far for soloing.
Okay thank you. So at least for right snow, it really doesn’t matter which spec I’m in right now for a 1h and shield build until I’m higher level. I was reluctant to do fury partly because I dont want to have to worry about hearing two weapons. But you are saying that arms and fury work fine with 1h and shield for endgame content? Or is fury better for end game?
The only spec that can use a 1h + shield during endgame is Protection. Arms uses a 2h (in most cases), Fury DWs. If you’d rather just use 1 weapon, then Arms is your only choice.
Fury is generally better for endgame DPS, though early on Arms may do better due to lack of stats overall. When leveling, it’ll feel a lot better once you have more talents and overall gear for more rage and buttons to hit.
Once prepatch arrives and you get wotlk talents, protection warrior becomes a beast in terms of leveling! Actually it becomes into the top 3 in terms of how fast and how hard it is for you to die.
So you can always just wait til prepatch which will come in either 2 or 3 weeks or you can continue to lvl as whatver spec and the go protection with the 1 h and shield
Thank you for everyone’s input. Yeah I noticed right now warriors only have two dps specs which I find weird. I’ll just see how it goes
At level 15, Warrior will feel slow regardless of what spec you go with. 1H and shield, and then just pick a spec where the abilities toward the bottom of the tree look more interesting to you.
Warriors have always had two DPS specs. They briefly had Gladiator Stance, a Protection talent that made it deal DPS, but it was removed. It was added in WoD and removed in the following expansion.
Good to know!
It should have been obvious that protection, the page with all the shield talents, is the one to go down for using a shield.
