"We won't merge because you'll lose your names"

You would have 1default pve layer for each faction to put players until a balance can be met.

Ex. 1000 Alliance and 600 horde. 400 alliance would be in a pve layer and 600 alliance and horde would be in pvp layers.

And this would actually be a brilliant use of layering blizzard will probably never do.

It also allows to pick the same last name to all your characters (if so you choose). That way friends and Guildies can immediately link you as an alt of your main character. I loved that in SWTOR and FF14.

Which is why I think (and agree with ppl who have also said it) that we should just have TWO US PvE servers. One for US East, one for US West. That would mean Westfall, Pagle, Mankrik, Windseeker and Ashkandi would become one for US East with about 18k Ally / 15k horde.

Honestly that’s a lot of population, but it’s not actually too bad in terms of faction balance for a PvE server.

At this point to alleviate some of the issues, barring the discussed merges they really should do two things:
1- Cross faction AH. So the 1% population of unbalanced servers can also sell/buy things
2- Cross faction mailing gold/items to your own characters.

These 2 things would go a long way with imbalanced servers.

Who cares about a name if you play on a dead server. Pretty obvious that the majority of people dont care that much or dont have an issue with names if everyone chose to pay for transfers. Youre supposed to make decisions for the greater good of the game, not make everyone happy.

I never understood the unique name thing. Letter accents are made for resolving this. You used to be ‘Speedy’. You are Spèédy now …

No, there were plenty of horde on the server. One GM who left a few months ago first told me that they could just fly over the allies, then left when people had a difficulty farming consumables. This was when it was 3-1 ally/horde.

I don’t know what your reply saying “no” is regarding. The post you replied to is what happened to Earthfury alliance and some other servers that I know of. Maybe Benediction horde has a different story with all the alliance transfers coming in.

Merging won’t make money. Making sure people have to transfer makes them money.

Yeah Blizzard isn’t talking about concern for the player transferring off the dead server. Chances are if they’re transferring, that player is going to lose their name. Blizzard is talking about the people who chose the “right” server all along. Why should that person who never transferred lose their name to some schmuck who intrudes on their community.

Somebodys gotta lose it. Or they have to do this connected realm so that you have a last name attached to it.

We all know what needs to be done. A single server per region/realm type with multiple layers. No where to hide/xfer off and a single economy. If some people gotta lose their name for it then thats it.

If only blizzard had some way to merge servers without players having to lose their name…

TL;DR: We don’t want to fix the problem because we like transfer money so here’s a bunch of bullturd reasons to pretend like we care.

Let’s be honest if you lose your name to a server merge your identity wasn’t as unique as you might’ve thought it was. Shoving all the servers together still sounds like a better idea. Host one mega server and be done with it. Connecting them seems like a bandaid and you still won’t appear in each other’s worlds and the massive layering causing people to dodge one another to me is a massively awkward situation.

The idea that some players have to wait in line to get into a layer where their server type means something is a wholely unattractive prospect.

It isn’t ideal but if balance tips too far and people quit/transfer off you’ll have a pve server rather than pve layers.

RIP Herod alliance

Yes and CRZ and all that garbage. Much easier for Blizzard to do that than actually maintain healthy servers in the first place.

One big mega server is a stupid idea.

They gave many reasons as to why they are hesitant to merge servers. One reason being that many players actually enjoy being on the dominant faction. I play on Sulfuras Horde… in Classic it was pretty close to being 50/50 with alliance sometimes having a slightly higher population until after AQ. There was a particular guild that made it their life goal to grief all horde on the server…. After well over a year of toxic behavior from mainly their guild, the horde as a whole got so fed up that our entire faction banded together to put an end to it and decided that instead of the majority of Horde being passive in world PvP that we were going to retaliate in a similar manner to what we had to deal with for so long…. Fast forward to TBC and the Horde was around 60/40 and any time we would see groups of alliance there would be a message in world chat of “phase 2 never forget” or “Revenge for the atrocities of Grizzly”…. Long story short, we played a PvP server to its extreme. Because of what a single toxic alliance guild did to our entire faction. Now…. I haven’t seen an alliance character on Sulfuras in over 5 or 6 months. They left. We won our war. We can farm with zero issues. We can level in any zone with ease. And the consensus I hear from most players on Horde in my realm is that we don’t want some alliance server to merge with ours… we won our war. If we want pvp we can queue up for BGs and lose to Benediction premades 99% of the time.

Personally I think a better solution would be to force realms like Benediction to remove layering and set a hard population cap…players gathering in the tens of thousands to one realm is absurd. ONLY offer free transfers to realms that could benefit from more alliance. And disable the ability to purchase realm transfers to and from that realm. Only allow the free transfers to realms that need more alliance. People can’t play their character because they got put into a queue??? Too bad. Shouldn’t have funneled such a massive amount of people to one place to begin with. They still have a choice to wait until others transfer off and have shorter (or no) queues.

There are PvE servers for people like that.

There are PvE servers for people who like to farm with “zero” issues.

There are PvE servers for people don’t want to face WPvP.

There are PvE servers for people like that.

Essentially you’re bragging about turning your PvP server into a PvE server because y’all didn’t like to PvP when it was inconvenient.

Grats!
