Except there are things Blizzard can do so you can keep your names. Sur names and so on.
This was the weakest excuse for laziness Blizzard’s ever come up with.

This is Blizzard’s game and the solution is up to them to come up with. So far they’ve simply made things worse. That being said, there have been a lot of useful suggestions.
It’s impossible to create a game that makes everyone happy. I’d bet that those who care that much about their name that it exceeds the problems of dead and dying realms is small. Even most of those who care a lot about their name likely care more about blizzard finding some solution to server population.
Well all dead factions on servers. For me its Earthfury alliance. But why stop at that let everyone go where they want rebalance the whole thing by free flow player choice. Create one new server per region with 60/40 balance caps in place. See where we end up.
Easy solution to that, merge the servers, but tag your old server name, like they did with connected realms.
No server mergers, or CRZ. One of several things that ruined retail.
I think a super important part of any free transfer wild wild west scenario is Blizzard providing live population statistics during whatever that window of available movement would be.
You don’t want a situation where a guild wants to move and only half of the transfers work because a cap is hit.
yea or maybe all you donkeys who actually don’t enjoy pvp should have rolled pve. what a concept that is
Quick lets pretend dudes who enjoy world “pvp” arent guys going around just acting like pieces of crap to people 90% of the time. The hell outta here lol.
seems irrelevant. but sure, whatever makes you feel better about getting ganked i guess? roll pve, nerd
I don’t think the PvE servers are as bumping as the PvP ones. Just at a quick glance at Ironfroge they’re probably all medium pop servers with most coming in at just under 9000 players and below. So people come for the PvP population but want the PvE experience. This might even be the majority of the players here, however. Just because it might be the case doesn’t mean Blizzard should do nothing. Merging the servers and offering transfers to PvE servers should people get fed up with WorldPvP, it’s totally an option. People wanting PvE servers are just tipping the scale of the PvP server and complaints that “Oh I’m encountering the opposite faction too much and getting ganked.” is really not even a valid complaint when you rolled your characters here. You knew the risks when you clicked on a PvP server and most people in classic are veterans and have no excuse to not know.
If they merge the servers it’ll be for the benefit of people who enjoy PvP and the targetted audience and purpose of these servers.
I main arms no silly zug is ganking me lol.
You’re attempting to paint the entire population the same color. I enjoy PvP servers cause it adds tension. Sitting in strangethorn vale killing trolls and encountering 2 horde who could very well **** my day up. They pull a mob too many and I say “to hell with it.” I pull the last mob and then we proceed to work together getting our quests done in that area without blasting each other. A subtle and uneasy alliance. That could very well go the other way, with subtle backstabbing and trying to knock each other off or scare one another out of the area. I don’t like the idea that these warring factions have nothing to worry about when literally side by side in the same area. If you’re a level 70 just gank camping lowbies, okay fine, if that’s how you choose to spend your day, fine but that’s not everyone and not what I’m looking for when I roll on these servers.
Well. Head on over to Grobb then
Small servers? Which server is small? Can you name one? If it’s med/low, it’s dying. People will transfer off the low pop servers. There is no ‘small’ server.
I only see dying and dead servers. None wants small servers
Except for the fact that it’s US west, I tried making a character there and it puts me over 100 ms at all times. It doesn’t sound like much but it puts in just enough of a delay to be infuriating. Curse me for bad internet but it’s the best I can do. I live on the East coast, I originally considered it when debating on what to do and it’s just not feasible.
Right, nobody wants small servers, but considering a server ‘dead’ or denying that it’s dead based on overall population is a huge oversight.
An 80/20 server with 7000 players is absolutely dead for the underrepresented faction.
Any scenario where you are locked into a realm that has very few players on throughout the day due to raid logging, and you’re forced to spend $250 to transfer your characters (mains, alts, bank alts) to another realm is really bad.
The solution is to offer a window of free transfers (1 full server transfer for all of your characters on that realm), with the community coordinating which realms they want to be megaservers, small servers, balanced or unbalanced pvp servers etc. Blizzard should provide live population statistics during this time, people can make their choices with all of the facts based on their situation, and preferences.
After that, nobody can say that they are stuck somewhere. Really simple.
ya, I just want to point out that none wants small servers, so the claim that server merge would force unwanted name changes on the imaginary people is moot. By the time a server shrinks small enough, people will just quit/move. Losing names is a laughable reason.
people want a good enough server to play on. How many people should a server have? I don’t know, I’m not a game dev.
Exactly. Tension, danger, needing to watch your surroundings and pay attention. The random fighting. I especially love the random fighting over nodes. This stuff enhances my game experience a lot.
I used to do the griefing stuff years ago but since Classic has come out I really haven’t all that much. It now really is the spontaneous interactions for me.
Then people who don’t care for World PVP come on here and think they can talk for people who like World PVP and it’s like NO you cannot. Almost everything you say sounds ignorant and shows that you have no desire whatsoever to understand people who like different things than you do. I’m the one who picked the correct server type.
Thankfully Grobbulus and SoM are getting me what I want for now when it comes to World PVP. It’s unfortunate that you haven’t been able to get that Vaserian.
At this point servers just need balanced pvp layers. Set a max ratio for the layer (55/45) and max population per layer. Send in/out players from the default pve layer to reach proper population and balance every X minutes.
Probably some details need to be worked out and too late to help, but at least it’ll help out the underdog factions have some balanced pvp.
