Everyone raid logs on each expansion anyway. It’ll be rolling populations depending on the day of the week hitting up raids.
We’re all still playing WoW at the end of the day. Long as there is a good 10-15k on each version playing there is plenty of people for content to be cleared.
Microsoft: this request retains player base, meaning you keep subscription money flowing in. Permanent TBC and permanent WoLK servers. People will send you money to do this.
Like me. I’ve been enjoying WotLK all this time. Soon as Cata is released, I’ll quit. I don’t pay retail to play changing expansions. I pay retail to play in past expansions to enjoy the raw expansion. Retail ruined the base game and Blizzard is about to do it again.
They would just have to keep 1 server up for pvp and 1 for pve. Heck they could probably just keep 1 pvp server up and that would be fine for the majority of us.
I usually play PVE, but I would be fine with that. Playing on a PVP server certainly creates a more thrilling environment.
Lol. I hear you. Unless I am reacting to sarcasm. Hard to tell. Either way, that sentiment does exist. Some of my greatest times have been on PVP servers. Although, now a days, getting ganked while trying to fish up some Winter Squid is annoying. I’d deal with it though for any type of TBC server.
I’m worried that they eventually plan to move ALL classic characters to retail. I know, I know…that’s impossible, right? But that’s the reality I’m living right now. I just posted a separate thread about it. After a very long process trying to recover my old WoW account from TBC days, I “succeeded.” But instead of my characters appearing in a Wotlk server (as I expected since I didn’t choose to keep them in TBC all those years ago), they were restored to the current, retail WoW version of the realm I was on 18 years ago (Llane).
All the characters have been “level squished” (my lvl 60 is now level 26 in retail WoW) and it appears most of the gear has been stripped or modified through a “Gear Update” service.
Yes, that is what happened to everyone’s characters. There were no options to stay in any version of the game back then. Hopefully, we can get a Classic TBC and Wrath Era server Just like we have for vanilla now that is unchanged or very close to it and won’t go anywhere so we can enjoy the world/that version of the game before it changed.
This sounds like the correct procedure and Blizzard did nothing wrong. You were playing the retail version of WoW 18 years ago. They created WoW Classic more recently and it was a fresh server for everyone. I understand your gripe, but Blizzard didn’t intentionally screw you.
Yes, it makes total sense. I’m rolling new Wotlk (soon to be Cata) characters and having a good time. I even loaded up my old (recovered) characters in retail…but that was a pretty disappointing experience. They are mostly the characters from long ago in name only.
I’m not complaining at Blizzard. I just wish I could have relived the experience with my old toons, as they were, where they were. You know, a simple yearning for the “good ol’ days.”
Most of the people wouldn’t be playing otherwise. If Blizzard removed classic era, those players aren’t going to flock to retail, 95%+ of them would just leave. Same goes for any other combination of WoW versions. The only ones that would be willing to play another is probably era and SoD players, and even then not all.
I remade my first character down to the exact looks and picked the leveling path I used the first time I played the game (which was far from optimized). Of course it won’t be the same experience since you know the game already and your encounters with other players will be different from 15-20 years ago, but I still found it a lot of fun.
Glad you’re having a good time! Definitely give vanilla Era a shot too. It’s still a blast over there even though gold is through the roof and everyone is geared out of their minds.
Exactly. If it wasn’t for Era (the most unchanged/vanilla version we have) I wouldn’t be here and I know most of the entire player base wouldn’t either. SoD was Okkkk at the start but it feels way off, coming to realization from a lot of things. It’s nowhere near original vanilla and they didn’t just tweak classes, they made classes able to do things that they shouldn’t be able to.
