I know there is a way to downgrade 1 higher crest into 1 lower, but this isn’t a very cash money system.
I’m drowning in whelpling/drakes because I don’t need any of their upgrades, meanwhile I can’t get enough Wyrms because they’re needed for champion and hero gear, but I don’t want to farm <15 dungeons for them. I want to spend my time challenging myself on 17+ dungeons which only drop Aspects.
It also feels weird to downgrade 1 aspect into a lesser 1 wyrm just so I can upgrade some levels.
So why not just do something like 5 whelpling crests turns into 1 drake, 5 drakes into 1 wyrm, 5 wyrms into 1 aspect, etc
And conversely, 1 aspect should downgrade into like 2-3 wyrms instead of just 1:1
Because they are gating the content. If you could farm extra wyrm crests by trading in drake, you would have to do lower content to get more drake crests to turn into wyrm crests to keep up with everyone else. Additionally, you would need to max your whelp crests to get more drake crests, to get more wyrm crests, to get more aspect crests. To maximize your crests you would need to do at least 40 m+ per week if you didn’t want to do world quests. I would rather just leave my whelp crests to rot.
They get lifted mid season when most mains are already capped on gear anyway, so if someone wants to spend hours farming drake crests so they can turn it into 1 wyrm crest for some reason, then they should have the option to
There is a cap per crest type, 150 of each per week. That means I would need 150 whelp, drake, wyrm, and aspect if I can trade up. Even at 5-1 for whelp to drake, I could get two extra wyrm crests if I did get the 150 whelp, and many players would feel the need to get them.
It is incredibly un fun to have to go do 15’s and below just so I can upgrade my gear. not only is it boring doing a key level that I don’t find challenging, but I am also forced to enter pugs with players who consider 15’s their push keys which is incredibly frustrating.
You do not “have to” do lower tier keys. Once you break into the next tier of loot, for example Hero, you only need the crests from those key levels. Loot that drops from a +17 will not need crests from a +10.
If the cap is 10 crests a week, they wouldn’t feel pressured to farm drakes when they can just get wyrms. The drakes would just be a nice bonus when they get 5 and turn it into 1 wyrm so now they only need to farm 9 more wyrms instead of 10.
I’ll concede a half-step, but it’s hardly needing to drop key levels to farm lower crests. Especially since you should have left over crests from progressing and also the discount system they have in place. Which I think is pretty unique and good.
For a given slot, once you obtain gear of a certain item level, either from upgrading or from drops, all future upgrades will have a 60% discount on their Flightstone cost. This discount is account-wide . Rings and Trinkets require two of a certain item level to unlock the discount.
For a given slot, once you obtain gear of a certain item level, either from upgrading or from drops, all future upgrades won’t cost any Crests to be upgraded. This discount is NOT account-wide. Rings and Trinkets require two of a certain item level to unlock the discount.
Better yet, there’s a finite number you’ll ever need of any crest. Once you upgrade an item with 4 wyrm’s crests… You never need another wyrm’s crest in that slot. They’ve removed any point in holding onto upgrades other than flightstones which fall from the sky more than you can spend them. With it being an extended cap as well, missing a week or not capping in a week isn’t punishing either. The only behaviour that is curbed is early season wyrm farming, which is what the complaint is about. It’s a tiny hill on which to die, if you ask me.
Explorer items are ilevel 376 – 398. These only require Flightstones to upgrade.
Adventurer items are ilevel 389 – 411. The first few upgrades at this level only cost Flightstones, but upgrades between ilevel 402 – 411 also require a Whelpling’s Shadowflame Crest.
Veteran’s items are ilevel 402 – 424. The first four upgrades require a Whelpling’s Shadowflame Crest, while the last four require a Drake’s Shadowflame Crest.
Champion items are ilevel 415 – 437. They first four upgrades require a Drake’s Shadowflame Crests, while the last four require a Wyrm’s Shadowflame Crest.
Hero items are ilevel 428 – 441. The first four upgrades require a Wyrm’s Shadowflame Crest, while the final requires an Aspect’s Shadowflame Crest. Items can’t be upgraded beyond 441 (equivalent to Mythic gear).
Like I said already a few posts back. I conceded to a degree, but you don’t need to farm lower keys.
gear from +17 is hero gear. need wyrm crests to upgrade hero gear up until ilvl 337. aspect crest can only take the gear from 337-441. therefor in order to upgrade hero gear you need wyrm crests. where do you get wyrm crests? 11-15 dungeons.
Have from where my guy? You get 10 a week, the 10 from last week are long spent. Can only get 10 frags per heroic boss and the rest from spamming 11-15 dungeons.
If you’re min-maxing your loot (which I have no opinion on) this is the toll. Just like running low easy/free keys for valor in previous seasons. Otherwise, you can cap aspects and downgrade them, but that’s slower.
Side note, this is why I’ve been just vibing this season. Rushing it is more work.
