We need to talk about Maldraxxus

Don’t you belong in Ravendreth?

I don’t hate the cinematic or anything. But if I look at Harbingers, Warbringers, and the Bastion cinematic the Maldraxxus cinematic is clearly a step below the rest.

I found the cinematic to be rather bland. However, I will say I care very little about Maldraxxus and this does not make me anymore interested in it. It’s the zone that I find least interesting.

Revendreth is another zone that seems bleh. I’m only excited for the cinematic because of the possibility of Garrosh.

Uther’s story gave me chills.

Draka’s story left me a bit confused.

I’m not much of a story/lore buff by any means. Uther’s definitely made me want to see/hear/learn more. Draka’s made me use the “wtf just happened face”. What I remember or I think I remember Draka was a brown warrior orc. Now she’s a green rogue orc. I can understand fel and how she could become a green orc without drinking the koolaid. Does this confirm one character can now play all classes?

It was good but I wanted to see more Maldraxxus. It felt more like a Draka origin/transition story than a showcasing of Maldraxxus, a cool new place we have yet to explore.

Yeah OP I agree it is cool and they made it really hard for me to chose as I too am forsaken/undead and that goes for 8/10 characters and only cause certain race/class combos aren’t available (yet) but I think I might have to go Venthyr I mean in SL all everyone there is dead so kind of like how undead is special in Azeroth, we are pretty normal in SL. I think I might have to split my characters between the two factions both are very cool.

I am also surprised there isn’t more buzz, I mean hard to beat out a return of Arthas, but there were demons in this short, which either meant Blizz reused artwork or they were there for a reason and that should have everyone talking

Maldraxxus was cool… Bastion is just overrated… Arthas and Uther is hard to beat, that story is easy to write. Draka is more original… I’m switching to Horde Undead for SL and can’t wait to choose Maldraxxus.

I thought it was pretty good, I just feel like we didn’t get a whole & clear picture of what was actually going on, like we missed a bit of context, which is prolly what we’ll see in the storyline for Maldraxxus. I’m very curious about the implications of Draka infiltrating that Legion Stronghold, looks like the same one that Illidan ambushed in his Harbinger video. Does that mean the denizens of the Shadowlands (Besides the Kyrian Spirit Healers) have the ability to planet hop & plane hop to the mortal realm? What was that scroll she stole? Lots of questions.

It was the entire shot, not just reused models but the whole thing, and some people are calling it lazyness or w/e, but I think it’s very intentional that we’re getting some more context built around Maldraxxus’ greater role in the universe, maybe they helped Illidan some how? That was the same stronghold he ambushed in Harbingers.

I totally agree, I think even Blizz isn’t lazy enough to think that their customers wouldn’t notice that. It was picked up on by people in seconds. Which can only mean… There has to be more to it. People overlooked that and its obvious with how mediocre the rest of the plot was that it was supposed to stand out, like that is the thing that makes it whoa! That is the moment when Uther dropped Arthas into the maw only this was designed to make people feel like they solved something - unfortunately Blizzard might have over estimated the capabilities or interest of many of their customers.

This is setting up a ton of interesting speculations

We will see how the choice will be, because choosing a covenant only for your class and op skill, makes Blizzard lied about the versatility of the anothers convenants skills and the game is not balanced.

and we will make the same mistake that happened with Azerite Esences, Artifact Weapons and Corruptions.

That is literally telling and hinting at things.

Side note, I find it kind of pathetic that what gets people to like a cinematic is just the characters involved. That’s…incredibly shallow and close-minded.

I like what I am seeing, as far as the concept of Maldraxxus.

A land of eternal war. It’s like an undead game of thrones.

A lot of people will choose the Necrolords.

It creates more hype when its a beloved character, not a character we’ve only read about but didn’t do anything interesting at all.

The interest generated should be about something new.

Uther and Arthas have had their stories, beginning, middle, extra crap, and end.

People growing excited at seeing even more story to an already finished story…is just silly.

Whole point of the expansion is something new.

Not with this random orc lady no one knows about, she’s just “Thrall’s mom”.

I mean. It’s alright

But that’s the issue. It’s just alright.

Even if I know that when folks die in the shadowlands they get turned into Anima, hearing Draka say “there could be survivors!” in the land of the dead seemed pretty funny.

That’s objectively incorrect.

I knew about her, and I stopped paying attention to lore in any detail post-MoP.

You shouldn’t have to have pre-requisite knowledge about a character just to enjoy a story around them.

That’s actually asinine as hell.

It was a 5/10 for me. Undead in Shadowlands doesn’t make any sense. Why is it all the other dead are fleshed out and some are bones? Whose bones? It doesn’t make any sense.

I still like the art style but when Draka rode up to the bags of bones and called them brothers I chuckled. The story looks super silly (more than usual) and not really something to take seriously.

No offence to the wonderful people @Blizz HQ but this was a snore fest.
