We keep going through these long periods where we dont really get much in the way of new races or classes. In the case of the last three:
Earthen
Dracthyr
Evoker
None are really inspiring.
Id love to see a return to a new race for each faction and a new starting area despite thinking factions are outmoded and stupid.
We need some wins. Regardless of what it costs. As trivial as a new race is, it makes the same old adventures fresh and provides a new perspective.
Im sure thisnthread is going to devolve into “i want this race!” Or “we need tinkerers” but what the new races are is irrelevant to me so long as the team is trying to dethrone the top 3 popular races.
Dont make an elf. Dont make a human. Dont make them short. Make two races that rival the blood elves in popularity. Do something with the blind ambition of making money. Pick winners.
The game needs a shakeup imo. And we need to start with some fun, cool, sugary, lore-free fun. Just give us awesome ish that looks badass.
I think dracthyr and earthen are fine. But I’d still love some new races. Ogres and vrykul of course. But top for me would be mok’nathal. Despite them being very similar to orcs. Rexxar’s model is just too awesome.

I am not seeing where we keep going thru long periods of time where we haven’t gotten a new race or class.
I think that is a misconception caused by so many players, youtubers, ect hyping up getting new races and new classes as oppose to fact.
I don’t know about the other specs but Dev Evoker is dam good.
And the Dracthyr being able to fly is endless fun!
And the two together is pretty awesome. There is one spell that the dracthyr’s poss is actually menacing and its wings light up… french kiss!

That is what they should have done in BfA, two completely new races with their own new racial starting zone and then a couple copy races on each side who already had lore and an in-game home like the mag’har orcs, hm tauren, dark iron dwarfs and light-forged draenei.

I am not sure if you are over estimating their budget or their creativity.
Definitely their creativity. Yes, I love my dracthyr (as long as I think of them as a failed experiment and don’t have to look at their face or watch them walk) but realistically it could and should have been so much better. And it could have been done for so much cheaper!

Earthen sucks moreso due to how bad their racials are. Giving up food buff (primary stat) for a tiny amount of secondary stats via eating gems was a terrible idea. Earthen dwarf healers were screwed as well, before the hotfix, as healers were unable to drink water to replenish mana. The exp buff is super redundant considering current leveling speeds and the charge ability feels clunky to use well. Should have kept a cleanse effect as their active, so horde players would have access to one of the better racials in game (shadowmeld/stoneform are huge)
They look cool to me though, i enjoyed their customization. At least with dracthyr you get an extra stop, ignore knock backs, smol speed buff with the jump → glide, and mastery (all while being able to eat normal food)
also, Dracthyr is a great addition so, the claim is false. Opinion at best.
That said, there are a number of other Non-Elf/ Non-human (imo those are basically the same any how with how minor the visuals are.) race options that would be interesting additions.

Its also the Year of the Snake so they should just give us Sethrak and Naga already. perfect excuse to add/ sell “bonus races”
I mean, if they added Val’kyr as playable maybe, but is that just a human? What about vampires, are those just elves? Are Ethereals “humans?” Also they are IMO overhyped and will suffer from a lot of the same problems as Dracthyr, holding them back from eclipsing the popular races.
Had their chance to make Drakonid and blew it. And they shot their shot with Vulpera, proving furry races will never be as popular as humanoids anyway.
Maybe if they made an actual robot race, and not a halfhearted effort like Mechagnomes or Earthen. I doubt it would be elf levels of popular, though.
I’mma be real with you, if you want a new race to be actually popular, then it’s going to need to hit lowest common denominator. And to do that you need to bring an absolute thirst trap. Like, if you’re not stealing Viera or Mi’qote from XIV then you should probably give up your mad quest to unseat elves, because it ain’t happening.
