We need more demon content

I was unsure whether or not to put this into the ‘Lore’ threads section of the forums or the ‘General Discussion’ forums — However, given it relates to gameplay too – I felt this would be suitable.

As per the title, I feel like we need more demon related content.

:open_book: The Lore:

Even prior to the official creation of ‘The Legion’ under Sargeras — The demons, horrors, mysterious entities and chaotic beings of the cosmos & the twisting nether have been a dire threat or significant power to behold amongst the myriad variety of worlds of the great dark beyond.

The fall of the legion would not change that — If anything – It may present opportunity for powerful demons to take charge, seize power and take matters into their own hands, for their own goals — whether they be short term, or long term. The reason being, is that the fall of the Legion would’ve presented immense power-vacuums in the nether and the metaphoric world of these innumerous creatures – and to a fewer extent, the greatly powerful beings that are amongst them.

:computer: The Gameplay - Quests, class-relevance, patches & more.

Bringing forth demons and even multiple demon factions in the fallout of the Legion’s fall would present intriguing content and even lore potential for a massive magnitude of quests and story relevance once more – Especially for both warlocks and demon hunters.

  • It’d be interesting to see more void-entities that are from the nether too, whether or not their classified as demons — or perhaps were once under a misconception, but are in fact a different creature altogether, with their own goals & desires (Like the same goals as Xal’atath for example).

You’d also have the forces of light, like paladins & priests seek to bolster themselves for the rising darkness — along with warriors, rogues, DKs and monks finding a test of skill to such tremendous powers; with the mages & other magic users observe them with curiosity to learn but the wills to defeat those that dare challenge their lives, along with their world.

:books: The Story that keeps on giving …

Naturally, you could present it in such a way that the infinitude of the universe could herald an untold number of factions & ranks forming with the lack of the Legion shackling them — or the lack of the Legion resulting in other factions to come out of hiding and act more freely without such an organised danger about (Ethereal factions for example).

A good start that I feel would present a good kickoff would be Tarratus – Referenced from an item-drop ‘Tarratus Keystone’ by Portal Keeper Hasabel in Antorus. This item reads:

    • “A prison world for rebellious demons, the radiance of Tarratus’ sun is breathtaking to behold.”

Naturally a reference to Tartarus but nonetheless – The story could convey that a war of demon factions broke out to claim the world to release forces that they knew would side with them, resulting in a cataclysm that freed the entirety – Only to reveal not ONLY demons were kept in this unfathomable prison, but also great void entities, old gods of the cosmos and even shining beings such as naaru.

The chaotic destruction of the prison & their conflicting energies now colliding letting out rifts that echoed ripples throughout the nether, allowing these former denizens and beings of this prison to escape in all manners of direction — Only a few staying to fight their opposing forces, with the majority & more high-tier of the ladder seeking to gain distance and regain their former glory …

This would present both threats, allies and interesting stories revolving around:

  • Demons
  • The old gods & beings of the void

  • The Naaru & beings of the light

  • Arcane entities (Such as Aluneth)

  • Perhaps even constellar beings (Such as Algalon the Observer )

  • Along with some powerful individuals of various races (Ethereals, Draenei, Eredar and perhaps even those from Azeroth, such as Highborne, Felblood Elves etc)

Whatever the case, I feel like the above would breathe a great deal of life back into WoW and especially bring a sense of danger & excitement with the limitless adversaries & allies, factions and adventures on the horizon.

Anyway!

What of the above adversaries or their themes would YOU like to see more of?

I want to go to the Succubus planet.

For tourism

Demons used to be a mysterious, otherworldly, and unknowable force, but they were basically turned into evil space aliens, which, for me, made them far less cool. When I saw they had Legion spaceships bombarding stuff in the Legion expansion, it just felt wrong and off—it ruined it for me personally.

Would it be better if it was an incubus planet?

Naturally.

They’re great intelligence agents and interrogators, we could learn much from them!

They’re still that — It’s just that there’s demons of all sorts of different varieties

For instance, there’s innumerous demons of various natures, origins and desires throughout the Twisting Nether and the great dark beyond – However, there’s also beings that can become demonic in nature from:

  • The consumption of demons (Blood, flesh and even their magic)
  • Repeated doses of heavy fel power
  • Both of these in combination with one another
  • And sometimes even rituals!

Although those are more-so artificially created or ‘recruited’ demons from them indulging in such diabolical, mysterious and often volatile powers — but the original demons, those that were and have always been, which tend to usually be birthed from the most chaotic & dark regions of the twisting nether itself — are from all sorts of avenues

From what I remember, demons were the ones who corrupted Sargeras too, but they retconned that—which I still despise.

Each their own. It made them make sense. Also, very Warhammer.

Nah, it was Always the void that turned sargaras into a chicken and made him go nuts to use fel.

Demons became boring for me after the 3rd xpac focusing on them and the legion. They can stay away for all I care, though at some point blizz will need to dig em up for an expansion villain or 2.

But demonology has been gutted , it all about demon hunters :sunglasses:

Don’t know about you, I rock in deep with my army of demons.

Again, they sort of still did?
To an extent anyway.

Sargeras forming the idea for a crusade to scour life from all worlds in the cosmos to prevent old gods potentially corrupting a world soul in one of them was guided by the Dreadlords imbuing fear into him — Albeit to a partial extent, the threat they detailed was real, so I guess you could argue they simply laid emphasis on the truth which convinced him to take action through extreme means.

However when Sargeras shattered Mardum, the chaotic energies and fel power from within had exploded forth and overwhelmed him, shattering then imbuing his form with its tremendous power.

:person_shrugging: One could speculate that his later formed methods and persona was only worsened due to this effect & change that occurred towards him.

None of the above. I’ve had enough otherworldly beings. Bring the conflict back among the kingdoms of Azeroth.

:face_with_raised_eyebrow: Otherworldly beings have always been on Azeroth — and always been the core conflicts among the kingdoms of Azeroth …
