We need Death Appeals

One of my favorite parts of the original HC Addons was the feature to appeal deaths.

It was a feature used when you had proof of being DC’d from the game or foul play was at hand by other players, and it made sense in a game like Hardcore where you spend so many hours on a single character.

Imagine you spend 50-60 hours and you DC and die, it would be heartbreaking.

There has to be some sort of appeal system to help players out, or Hardcore will lose too many players due to deaths that were not in their control.

I lost my character on Saturday and spent the entire afternoon crying, just now getting over it. I also would like to appeal my death.

No we don’t. Maybe don’t be bad at the game and you won’t die

Didn’t you make this same post a few days ago? Lol I don’t think you should play HC.

How is losing a character to DC being “bad” at the game?

Legit lost my lv 20 warrior last night to a DC. Took over 60 seconds to even log back into the server. I called my Hardcore run quits over that and im back on era now.

Oh well, glad others find some fun in that.

This is sad to hear and won’t be the only time we’ll get a story like this.

Death appeals could’ve prevented this and kept another player on the server, people shouldn’t be punished for Blizzard’s server issues.

That was one of your favorite parts?

No, we really don’t. Stuff happens. Go again.

Nope, those are the risks of playing hardcore online. You knew very well in advance what’s ahead of you considering you played the game before. There’s reasons why people believe HC is a fad and why only the real hardcore and masochist players will keep playing.

Wasn’t there abuse of the appeal system and a lot of drama relating to that?

There were guides on how to game the system / addon to your advantage in order to win the appeal. While I suspect this is something much harder to do on an official server - don’t see bliz putting in the time.

Death is death. Death = delete. Whether or not I have control of it doesn’t really matter. Just means I get to enjoy the journey while it lasts. Once my toon dies. It’ll be transferred to a non-HC sever and I’ll continue to casually play anyways while going back to retail.

If I die to DC - of course it’ll feel bad. And I’ll be annoyed for a bit. But things happen. Thankfully this is a game!

If these are the risks I have to deal with then yeah I will be not coming back to Hardcore. That’s it end of story lol. Im not going to lose hours to a DC. I respect my time a little more than that.

Guess I can count myself lucky I learned this losing a lv 20 instead of a lv 40+

100% agree with Garmuck on this one. Blizzard should use a portion of the money coming in from HC to either update HC server stability, or hire a team of GMs that will review deaths and revive characters killed by server DCs.

You are the kind of person J Allen Brack was referring to when he said “You think you want it but you don’t”.

It’s a game you’re spending 100s of hours on with a permanent death.

If you had a legit run to 50 and died to a DC of all things which is not in your control, it would hurt a lot despite how much you try to brush it off because it happened it a way you couldn’t prevent.

That’s why death appeal is a thing.

Exactly.

This particular version of the game has a special ruleset. Death means that character’s run is over on the server. While I do realize that some players might be playing on a hardcore server to get a “fresh” experience, they need to understand the added consequence of playing on the server. That big ole box that pops up before you can create/log in with your character warns you.

Asking for appeals is like being upset that pvp happened on a pvp server. Special ruleset.

I don’t really see it as masochistic. I don’t have a big enough group to raid, so level 60 is when I ‘Beat’ Hardcore wow.

It’s legit the only way one can beat this video game.

But death won’t be the end, at least not for me →

Dying on a HC means I failed the specific rule set of this server. I’ll still get to play classic with my toon. So, that’s exciting.
